Do you even know what I’m referencing?

No and it better not be more Star Wars.

It’s from a movie called Manos: The Hands of Fate.

Better than The Last Jedi.

And if it was?

I would’ve made a snarkier comment or not.

Didn’t the micro series air slightly ahead of Episode III? Coming off of that impression of Grevious into the movie version would be a letdown.

Yes, the micro-series aired from 2003 to 2005, ending not long before Revenge of the Sith was released. The micro-series was the very first appearance Grievous made too.

And too bad Lucas Grievous wasn’t exactly the one seen in the brillant micro series. He still retains the design and a few aspects though, but he’s missing the frightening part Genndy gave him. Probably the best villain in the Saga, aside from Vader and Sidious of course, and maybe equal to Jabba. Such a shame its best version isn’t cannon anymore.

I do agree that it was the best depiction of Grievous. I don’t know if I would say he is the best villain in the saga. I would still put Vader and Palpatine up there as the best, but I’d even say Kylo Ren is there too, even though I’ve grown to also consider him a protagonist in the franchise.

That new concept art book cover pretty much confirms the trippy lightsaber fight we’ve been hearing about where Rey and Kylo keep “force flashing” across different settings, some of which being in zero gravity and/or underwater.

Maybe. A lot of concepts that are tossed around in early development never actually make it into the film.

It is a pretty cool piece of concept art though. Hopefully they’ll do something interesting with the final lightsaber battle and keep it from being too schlocky.

I would say it was about time, when you see all the material taken from his OT (including abandoned ideas) and his (still unreleased, so alleged) ST treatments, Lucas is probably due a credit for more than just “based on characters created by”.
That being said, this is good news but hardly reconforting (because of the guy who directs the movie and wrote the final draft).

I don’t believe this at all. These George Lucas rumors have been spreading for nearly every future Star Wars project.

This is not a rumor. It is fact. Abrams himself has stated, that they consulted Lucas while writing the script for TROS. He is the source in this instance.

I don’t think George’s input is as great as the media is making it out to be. The consultation probably went like this:
J.J. and Kathleen pitch George their idea for Ep. IX. George says, “yeah, sounds good.”

Honestly, I don’t think you could pay the man enough to care at this point.

I understand, but he was credited as a “creative consultant” for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. He is credited due to not only creating the franchise, but often Kathleen Kennedy or one of the directors will sometimes call him up for some possible ideas they can use, despite that George would later go on and bash the trilogy because Disney threw out his original ideas for the trilogy. He may have a small bit of help in the development of the story, but it’s very small and he isn’t necessarily writing the script or story, just pitching ideas that the filmmakers can later take and use them in the story.

George also could be sabotaging the movie. It’s a possibility.

IIRC, Gene Roddenbery got that sort of credit on the post TMP Trek movies he otherwise didn’t have much script input on.

Yeah, JJ was pretty up front about meeting with George. Now, it was probably just one meeting, but probably enough to discuss the script and George’s general idea of what themes he thinks are important to close out the trilogy. I picture something like one of those discussions Lucas would have with Filoni and the Clone Wars writing team.

Obviously George had discussions with JJ and Kathy on TFA. At least the first few months of pre-production when he was somewhat involved with the Visualization stage, and then overtime the film became a little more nostalgic as production continued, which George didn’t like. But certain ideas of his were carried over.

In the TLJ doc, we hear that George met with Rian during the pre-production phase of the movie, but there’s no telling how much was discussed and how much of their meeting was actually about the movie itself.

All the filmmakers have definitely talked to Lucas though. It’s a pipe dream but I would really like to get ‘Making Of’ books down the road so we can learn the deets on the trilogy’s development.

It’s true, but the headline implies more than what it actually is. They had a meeting to discuss how they envisioned the overall saga and what Lucas thought about its ending. So I don’t know if “Lucas” worked on TROS script is really accurate, but he was consulted.

George is a talker and a big idea guy though. If they asked him, I doubt he’d just say “yeah whatever.” He’d probably have a whole lot to say. Whether or not any of that makes it into the film is a different question, but going to the source to discuss larger ideas and themes probably had some sort of effect.

Don’t forget too that George literally gave a piece on direction on the Solo set.

I’d be surprised if Lucas didn’t do some second unit stuff as he did on ESB and ROTJ, only it’s been kept secret.

I wouldn’t really believe it all that much, considering that he bad mouthed the sequel trilogy around the time The Force Awakens came out, because Disney turned down his plans for VII, VIII and IX.

His animosity was directed at the company, I doubt he would badmouth a fellow movie director or turn down a request to help out. Why even visit the set if he’s that hostile towards the whole thing? I doubt he was just driving past the studio on vacation.

I’d highly doubt that. That’s quite a bit more work than just stopping by set to say hello or sitting down to have a conversation. The man’s retired after all, and he only did second unit on those films out of necessity.

These are the quotes from George Lucas on the sequel trilogy.

THE FORCE AWAKENS:
“I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

THE LAST JEDI:
He thought it was “beautifully made.”

I might be digging too deep into this but it’s kinda funny when you think this way… just for the record, I don’t think there’s any blood between Lucas and Disney, I think he might not enjoy the current direction Star Wars is going, but he isn’t salty about it. If Disney approached him for Episode 9 he’ll help motivate them… towards his perferred direction.

THE FORCE AWAKENS:
“I think the fans are going to love it. It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

Could be interpreted as fan service. It is very much what the fans want, although not necessarily what he wants. From Lucas’s perspective, the OT was his story but was blocked and altered by studio execs and producers. George Lucas expected the fans would love his unblocked vision of a PT, but was wrong, and now has come to believe the fans are looking for more of the OT. We can all agree TFA has many similarities to the ST (for better or worse I won’t get into), therefore, Lucas was correct in his analysis. This was what the fans were looking for.

THE LAST JEDI:
He thought it was “beautifully made.”

Indeed, The Last Jedi was beautiful. Best cinematography of any SW movie. Concerning the storytelling… that is up in the air, but Lucas at no point mentions it. Therefore his analysis is (once again) perfectly accurate- even if at first glance we think it translates into “I love it”.

C’mon even if you hate TLJ, that’s beautifully made.
