Could I get a link to the full edit?

For some reason I found multiple Rekindled files on my hard drive and they all have a 300-400MB size difference. It’s weird since I’ve only downloaded this once. The file ending with 012319 is probably the most recent version?

Yes, the 012319 version is currently the latest. Every file should have a date in the filename. If you have an older encode, that would likely be the reason for there to be slight variance in file sizes… but not sure how that would happen if you only downloaded it once!

Thanks buddy! If I had a brain, I could’ve just sorted them by date and see which one was the newest. 😄

If you don’t mind me asking, have you had any new ideas or changes in mind to warrant a new version? In my opinion the edit is overall truly fantastic, but I’m still kinda shipping for that Hux-Poe convo to return to its Legendary state. The “skinny, pasty guy” part still makes “oof!” even when I try to tell myself that it’s tolerable, haha!

Bromeo, yeah still thinking about a V2 possibility that will do just that! I have gotten some feedback, though, from a couple of people (literally 2!) that did like my take on that scene so I may have to keep an older version for them too.

Also thinking about reducing some of BB-8’s repair antics in the opening battle (although also received feedback opposing that change), removing the union dispute from Maz’s call (though tricky to do editing-wise), and possibly removing another Paige ladder kick.

So overall small changes possibly down the road. Work has been busy lately, so I’ve just been responding to PMs and haven’t gotten back into the project yet!

Just going to throw in my two cents:

Fanediting is something is fluid and always changing. There is no one “right” version of a film; rather, there are many different ideas and interpretations — each of which carries its own weight and has just as much value as the last.

With that said, it is my opinion that a faneditor should never consider a project to be finished. While I certainly hope that one finds satisfaction in their own work, the truth of the matter is that we do this for others. What fun is creating a fanedit if there’s no one to watch it? Making tweaks to satisfy even a small number of viewers means that you have given people a definitive experience they haven’t received elsewhere.

Constantly getting feedback to be improving, conceptualizing, or even just making the most modest of changes — that is what makes this hobby so enjoyable.

If you decide to make more changes — and I encourage you to do so — don’t think of it as “version 2.” You aren’t improving upon your original work (which is incredible, by the way), rather you are just trying out a different approach. An alternate cut. See where it lands, and most of all, have fun. Worst case scenario, you make someone else’s dream cut. You always have your first run to fall back on.

Keep all your versions. Hell, make fifty of them if you want! Storage is cheap and editing is fun. Find what works best and what people love. Who knows, maybe you’ll find something you like even more than your original. We are what they grow beyond, that is the burden of all faneditors.

Ziggy, that is very very well said!

I do video editing as a profession and in my experience, the delivery deadline is the only thing that keeps me from continuing to work on a project. It never feels done. Even sometimes after the deadline is over and the project delivered, I will continue to make tweaks for myself or for a demo reel.

And while I like having these “definitive versions” for myself, I also keep the version as delivered as a record of where I was and what I was able to accomplish in the allotted time. Deadlines are good sometimes, and I think often the work you put in the final weeks gets you 99% there. It’s that last 1% you can spend years on!

Whether I make a V2 or an Alt version will depend on how I feel when I open it back up with fresh eyes! In either case, I still have all of the versions, because as you say, storage is cheap!

The clips were awesome.

I’ve never watched TLJ a second time since leaving the theater. I’d really like to see your latest vision if possible.

I do not fear the Dark Side as you do.

Sorry to be that guy, but would love a link please! I am excited from what I’ve been reading over the last couple days, and I want this to become my definitive version!

Do. Or do not. There is no try.

I would love a link to this edit too.
Many thanks, poppasketti!
