I can’t find anything confirming or denying it. The only way to find out would be for an expert to rip the audio and visual or something.

There is no way in Hell it will be the original version. Anyone who says otherwise is starting ridiculous rumors.

My friend has it on goodish authority that this is the unaltered version.

Your friend is 100% wrong.

How do you know? Are you from the future?

No. I’m from the present that’s sane, realistic and based in fact. This concert series is run by the same people regardless of venue. This isn’t changing.

I’m going tomorrow night. The only video I could find of last night’s concert:

https://youtu.be/qiT5uYzR7Y8

Is this Altered or unaltered?

Altered: it has the new Lucasfilm logo.

So is the movie that is shown having a soundtrack without the score but including all the dialogue and effects? If so, does anyone have any information when/how the soundtracks have been made? Would be great to have an access to those!

I have it on ok’ish authority that it was the special edition at the Hollywood Bowl last night. The concert was amazing! Took a few videos:

https://youtu.be/EmK2u2mjWuU

https://youtu.be/LBK0xNlUZYo

Let’s be specific:

The version that was shown at the concert is not the Special Edition 1997 version, but the 2011 edition that’s on the Blu Ray and streaming services.

Regarding the second YouTube video that you provided, @abouttreefitty, as Luke is falling in the reactor shaft, Luke’s scream from the SE’97 is not heard at that concert.

Also, when the Emperor, via hologram, is talking to Vader in his chambers, it’s Ian McDiarmid’s image that is seen at that concert and not the female-faced, monkey-eyed one from the ’97 version that is a carry-over from the ’80 version.

How would you like a big-screen, marathon viewing of ANH, ESB, and ROTJ at a concert hall, where the entire music scores for each film is performed live, on stage, by a symphony orchestra…

…and all in one day?

Well, on July 29, some lucky folks in Tokyo, Japan can have that.

A member from the jwfan.com forum made this post about the said concert:

Hi all,

Just thought I’d pop on to say I was at the special 3 films in 1 day Star Wars performance in Tokyo.

As someone who has been a long time lover to be able to hear all 3 scores live for the first time in 1 day was a magnificent moment.
For the most part the orchestra were heros and the sound produced fitted the cues I know so well. The only criticism points I could have were -

The Ewok sound effect music wasn’t perfect

There was no “choir” effect for the Emperor’s throne room

But apart from that especiall the Cloud City part of ESB was spectacular.

The Orchestra got a loud 5 minute standing ovation at the end for obvious reasons - 10 hours of performance in 1 day.

Started 11am finished at 09:45pm at night.

The tickets were 32,000 yen and sold out very quickly - they had a special credit card sized ticket - proper embossed like a store card which you put in to a lanyard to make it easy for readmission in the mad rush to get food.

20 minute breaks at the half way points of the film and 90 minute breaks between films.

A recipe for sore posterior.

Not something I was interested in but they were selling a special LP version of A New Hope - is that being sold in the west or Japan only?

Okay, watching those clips, it does seem pretty cool. If it was the original versions of the films, I’d care more, but what’re you gonna do?

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

I wonder how they handle the really odd edits from the Falcon taking off from Mos Eisley and Vader’s shuttle in Empire. Seems like those would be hard to play naturally.

A Live-to-Projection concert program of The Last Jedi has just been announced.

A USA booking has been made:
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. March 19-21st 2021
https://www.njsymphony.org/events/detail/star-wars-the-last-jedi-in-concert

Whether this is the second booking of this program or even the North American premiere is uncertain, right now. Here in the United States during the 1st half of the year, orchestras from around the country are starting to announce their schedules for the 2020/21 season that starts in September and ends in August the following year. Some orchestras will put out their schedules as late as May.

So far, only three American orchestras have or will complete the first four Star Wars Film concerts by June of this year. So we’ll have to wait and see what orchestra will schedule SW:TLJ anywhere between September '20 and March '21.

I saw The Empire Strikes Back last year. Sadly these concerts are not for me. It was all of the worst elements of seeing a movie in a bad venue (concert halls don’t compete with an actual cinema) and hearing the score with people talking over it played by an orchestra that wasn’t as good as the LSO.

If it was actually the score being performed without sound effects or dialogue in its entirety then that would be something.

Also at the end of the movie when the credits rolled people got up and walked out like at a regular movie. What the heck did you pay $50 and up for?!?

Oh, and since it was the Special Edition it means that when you get to “Take me to my star destroyer” the music edits get truly terrible.

I’ll save my money for a proper concert next time.

Never tell me the odds.
