With 20th century in Disney’s grasp, what are the odds of an OUT release? — Page 2

If 4K is happening in advance of IX, I guess we should expect an announcement at Celebration. If we don’t get an announcement at Celebration, then probably not. And if an announcement with no mention of the theatrical cuts, then probably not going to be included. I’d bet if they are including them, they’ll announce it as soon as they announce any release to avoid any potential bad press.

I just don’t see how an announcement of only the SE (and the prequels and TFA/RO) in 4k would be met with any other response than “who cares?”

Disney should be smart enough to know that this is it for Star Wars on physical media and that they might as well put together the definitive collection for all time.

If they want to do it this year, they can just leave a little extra space with a cardboard placeholder for where Episode IX will eventually go.

I would bet on they’re also doing individual packages for each title. Collectors’ edition packaging (steelbooks, retailer exclusives) seems to be where it’s at right now in physical media.

Since TLJ and Solo are already out there in 4k, it might actually make more sense to only release the other eight movies individually for now. They could even make that the way you get the unaltered versions, say it’s a limited edition just like the GOUT. Then later on they could do a streamlined box set that’s just the final versions of I-IX, no OOT, no Rogue One or Solo.

Except that the SE isn’t the final version of the films but the rough cut that accidentally got released by a zombie creature that kidnapped and ate George Lucas. 😉.

For better or worse, this remains the best evidence out there that an OUT release is going to happen eventually.

Empire is a legitimate outlet, and why the hell would Landis lie about such a thing. If it’s happening, it’s entirely reasonable that Lucas would have known LF’s plans back in 2015.

I assume they’ll just release trilogy packs or single film releases. Then they can release the ST pack after IX is out.

It’s very possible that it will be exclusive on Disney’s future streaming service, if only for a short period. If it is, it would be a hell of a draw in for SW fans.

That would be a bit of a middle finger for those of us who have been waiting for a physical media release all these years.

With March almost over what do you think are the odds of a celebration announcement?

The odds are good that there will be a 4k announcement. I don’t know why it’s automatic there won’t be an OUT in the box. The chances are nonzero

Hopefully April will bring a pleasant surprise, here’s hoping.

Only 5 more days until an announcement will occur.

Evidence???

Evidence it won’t occur???

The fact that Disney has owned LF for over half a decade without anything to show on the subject?? The fact that a 4K version of ANH was apparently completed around 2014ish and was apparently confirmed to be the SE?? The fact that any form of restoring the original cuts is will roughly take 1-2 years to complete so any hopes of a restored OUT within the next year or so seems out of the realms of reality!

Your evidence it will??
