Curious to hear an update on V3’s progress! I just discovered V2 and it’s great! Thanks for the hard work.

Progress has been very slow, Notelu has not been working on it do to school, and as for me I’ve been working on it here, and their life has been busy there have been games coming out (Smash Ulitmate, Just Cause 4, Spiderman PS4 etc.) and I’ve had family passed away recently. If you or someone you know is willing to help out with the dirt clean up, that will help out a lot. So basically progress has been slow, but the project isn’t dead, far from it.

I’d totally be happy to help out, actually. I don’t have a PFClean license though. But if you can think of a way I can help, I’m game. I’m also happy to do a color pass once it’s cleaned up, if you’d like. Color is my main specialty. 😃

Holy crap man thanks I’ll tell Notelu you’re interested, just as a reference do you have any past work I can see that you can link me? You know to see how good your work is.

Yeah, like stretch009 mentioned, my Fellowship of the Ring Color Restoration is the big one. https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/44rh1ns-The-Fellowship-of-the-Ring-Extended-Edition-Color-Restoration/id/61952

I may not be able to help much during weekdays, but I should be able to help some on weekends or days off, if that works. 😃

Wow, that’s really good very impressive. Notelu told me that he was going to DM you a clip to see if you can work with the footage.

Hey I’ve been racking my brain trying to remember a commercial on tv that included restored clips of Zippity Doo Dah on it. It ran somtime in the last few years probably not more than 10. Anyone remember that? I dont think it was a Disney commercial but it could have been.

Maybe you’re thinking of the re-release trailers from 86? Are you from the US? You can find them on youtube.

Anyway…

It’s frankly silly that this movie has been held back for so long…

I own the Japanese laserdisc, and a higher quality player with optical output, could rig something up if anybody needs a “digital” sound reference…

Could anyone pm me with more info on how to get involved in anyway on the restore/preservation project…

In addition to, if you’re from the UK, they played it uncut on BBC in 2006… perhaps you’re remembering promo’s from that?

Update: Notelu is back working on the restoration, he also got in contact with an OT user that has the Song of the South Japanese Laserdisc, and the OT user is going to rip and send him the raw uncompressed movie audio and maybe the Japanese dub too. As well as some miscellaneous stuff.

Thanks to user “FilmFanForever” for providing me with a laserdisc-sourced raw audio track for Song Of The South!

I just bought a Technicolor trailer from 1956 (?, I haven’t been able to find an exact date for this specific trailer, but it’s not Eastman or LPP color like trailers from the 70s or 80s rereleases, however it isn’t Nitrate)

Hey, guys, I had this idea, and I want your opinion on it. How would you guys feel if we started excepting donations for the restoration?

The money will go towards

-Getting a good camera for scanning the 35mm trailer Notelu has
-Getting better programs to use for the dirt cleanup
-Getting better equipment/hardware to use to prevent crashes and to speed up the process of the cleanup in general

and other things I can’t think of right now

So what do you guys think?

(P.S. sorry I’m shit at formatting text)

Please tell me how you typed hyphens. They always end up as circles for me.

I also pitched this idea for a commentary track for the film. The track would be Notelu or me and Notelu commenting during the movie about the history of the film, facts about the film, our thoughts on the film, why we did the restoration, the technics we used on the restoration and overall have some fun. What do you guys think?

Update Mar 25, 2019: The Project is still not dead in fact I just finished the 2nd animated segment a few days ago. Because of this I’m going to be taking a break for 3 weeks maybe a month then after that I’m back to work, but I need your opinion on something.

So the YouTube channel “Defuntland” a channel that talks “the history of extinct theme park and themed entertainment experiences.” did an episode on a old dark ride from Six Flags Over Georgia based on the stories of Uncle Remus (the stories that Song Of The South was based on) called “Tales From The Okefenokee” here’s the link to the video: https://youtu.be/rghHLkqVE0A

After finding out about this, I was wondering if we should add the soundtrack and maybe a recreation of the ride or at the very least ride footage of Tales From The Okefenokee as bonus features for V3?

What do you guys think? And also if you have any questions just reply to this post with the question because I would like your feedback.

Disney has said that all of their properties from the Vault will be on Disney+. There’s a possibility that Song of the South could be released on there. Maybe, or maybe not. Disney put out a ride based on the film, yet no official home release.

The name’s Lawson. Noah Lawson.

There’s no way in hell that SotS will be on a mainstream service such as Disney+. The only, only hope that film has is via the Disney Movie Club… and even then I would be SHOCKED.

I’m still hopeful that Turner Classic Movies might air it one of these days. (With an introduction putting things into a historical context.) They show Disney films once a month now.

Update April 2nd, 2019: I’ve talked to Notelu (the head of the restoration project), and we agreed that we would not be including any songs or footage from Tales From The Okefenokee as bonus features. The main reason that for the ISO we’re trying to make it look as official as possible but also without tricking people into thinking it is official. So for the bonus features, we’re only adding stuff that Disney would add. And Tales From The Okefenokee is wasn’t owned by Disney. Therefore, it wouldn’t be on an official Blu-Ray. However, there is something we agreed to add, what that is you have to wait to find out.

Wow, looking forward to V3. Thank you SO much for all the hard work and efforts that have gone into this project!
Maybe have Tales From The Okefenokee and any other non-Disney owned materials on a separate “bonus disc” after V3 is released? It would be a companion disc to the Disney version. I personally, would love to hear an audio commentary track from a film historian-like perspective. Maybe it could contain the history of Uncle Remus, Disney’s involvements, anecdotes from the production, the movie’s reception, what’s happened since its initial release, etc. But even if none of these extras are ever released. Please know your work is GREATLY appreciated!
