TV on DVD resurrected (kind of) — Page 3

Well, that's all explained by this whole thing happening from a genetically enhanced spider. Doesn't bother me so much because it was part of the story line from the Spider-Man 2099 comics.

Also, I agree with Sam Raimi that how can some jag kid from a rundown neighborhood in NYC actually have the smarts enough to build web slingers and scientists with all the funding in the world can't do it? I agree that it's a huge stretch. Yes, it's tampering with the Spidey mythos, but you have to in movies. There's so much history to Spidey that just cannot be included. I think having to suspend disbelief over that kind of creativity in the movies would have made the first one worse to watch.

ya i guess your right if you look at it that way...

i guess just being such a marvel fan as a kid when it came to comics and stuff i have high expectations for the movies...

I still think they could have done a better job with Green Goblin though...
that plastic mask looked pretty cheesy...

anyone know how far they're taking spiderman?
its this gonna be like a James Bond sorta series where they just keep on going or are they eventually gonna stop sometime?

i guess same goes for X Men... anyone have any idea?

I have no idea how far either X-Men or Spider-Man will go.

And, yes, I agree with you. The Goblin's costume was my #1 sticking point with the first movie. Another reason why I like the second so much better, the villain looks like the villain I remember. Alfred Molina was great in that movie.

Doc Ocks costume was changed in Spider-Man 2 as well. So were all the X-men.

Okay, Seinfeld's DVD release was originally supposed to be just season 1. Then it became season 1 and 2. Well it apparently is now season 1, 2, and 3...

Early 'Seinfeld' Episodes Coming to DVD
By Marla Matzer Rose

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The first three seasons of "Seinfeld" are coming to DVD Nov. 23, just in time for Festivus.

The episodes will be available in two four-DVD volumes as well as combined in a boxed gift set. Each volume will include about 12 hours of new content and have a suggested list price of $49.95, said the set's Sony-owned distributor, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment.

The gift set will have a list price of $199.95 and will include such quirky extras as a limited-edition script from co-creator Larry David, "Monk's Diner" salt-and-pepper shakers and collectible playing cards.

In all, 40 original episodes are included in these releases, including such notables entries as "The Chinese Restaurant," "The Pez Dispenser" and "The Boyfriend" two-parter featuring Keith Hernandez.

Amid recent reports that key cast members Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Michael Richards and Jason Alexander (news) might not participate in the added content of the DVDs, negotiations "lasted about two minutes," said "Seinfeld" executive producer Howard West. He said they agreed to take part in the project in exchange for participation in the profits of future DVDs.

Columbia TriStar president Ben Feingold said "Seinfeld's" marketing budget "will be enormous and will be similar to any of the big feature films released in the fourth quarter this year."

"We've been working on this for a couple of years," Feingold said, adding that the episodes have been newly enhanced in high definition for the DVD release. "We're continuing work on the entire property, including subsequent seasons."

Extra features on the releases include audio commentaries from cast members, deleted scenes and never-aired stand-up comedy footage of Jerry Seinfeld, who created the series with David.

West said promotional partners on the DVD-only releases would include America Online, Microsoft, Coca-Cola and Regal Theaters in addition to such mass retailers as Wal-Mart and Target. Regal will feature onscreen ads for the DVDs beginning in November. He added that the studio also plans to cross-trailer "Seinfeld" on the DVD release of "Spider-Man 2."

I think I'll be sticking to the two individual sets. Don't need Seinfeld salt shakers.

I've always found CTHV's gift sets to be extremely overpriced. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Dark Crystal, etc. The only one I bought was Spider-Man, because it was cheaper than buying the movie and Stan Lee's Mutants, Monsters and Marvels seperately.

Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Columbia TriStar Home Video.

You only needed to read the article I posted to figure it out.

its not the cover art its whats inside that counts. And certainly whats inside is not boring.

ya i know that.. but i still thought they would have had a bit nicer of a cover...
i dunno... lol

I suppose they could have done better. To me when I deciding wheither or not to by a DVD, cover art is the least of my considerations.

I never expect cover art for TV shows to be that great. They never really had much to cull ideas from in the first place. Movies have all kinds of print ad spots in addition to multiple posters from which to create a great DVD cover. TV shows don't really have that. Just gimme the shows.

i guess im just comparing them to lets say the simpsons, friends, or sex in the city...
they all had unique covers for each season...
thats all im saying

One thing I hate though is when the season sets don't fit together well based on the covers. The Friends and Simpsons sets fit nicely. However, there are changes in the Dawson's Creek sets that I don't like and my second season of Sex and the City is a blue spine instead of the transparent spines that the other five seasons have. If you buy the set now as part of the big seasons 1-5 bulk box, you get an s2 with a clear spine, but you still cannot get it individually.

I'm with Bossk on this one. On a (slightly) related topic. I picked up the Thunderbirds International Rescue Edition box set. Not to be confused with the TV series, this is actually 2 movies done with the puppets in Techniscope in 1966 and 1968. Good, kitschy fun with very cool special effects for the time.

what's the reasoning behind that?

You're asking for reasoning from a DVD label?

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

well why would they make season 1 transparent... season 2 not and then season 3 transparent...
????

doesnt make much sense to me
