Given I’m still attached to DVD (nothing wrong with HD, just not mandatory to my viewing needs), I just recently got the 2007 Blade Runner Ultimate Collection DVD (just the DVD set, no carry case or whatever) and pretty happy with what it is. If the GOUT had been non-anamorphic widescreen I’d probably be content with that as well. That said I agree all cuts of Blade Runner should be included on all future formats (given the state of physical media at this point who knows if there will be) no more than all cuts of Star Wars should be.

GOUT was non-anamorphic widescreen.

That’s the whole reason someone on these very forums gave it the name GOUT in the first place, “George’s Original Unaltered Trilogy.”

I don’t like that Disney has a monopoly on the rights to my entire childhood, personally. Freaks me out.

That’s why any Disney film I purchase in the future will be purchased secondhand.

As for sound mixes, I’d love to hear the mono mix of ANH.

It’s included with Despecialized and 4K77. If it weren’t for the Dirty Harry .44 magnum SFX in the chasm shootout it would be my preferred mix of ANH.

Not to mention Puggo’s 16mm preservation, which is the original source.

I thought the original source for Belbucus’ restoration was a VHS recording from a TV broadcast in the early 80s?

I meant the original source for the mono track currently being used by current projects.

If Universal can include the original monomix of Jaws for its blu-ray release in 2012, Disney has zero excuse not to include the monomix of ANH in 2019.

What should the primary audio track be based on? If we’re going by the 35mm version for the picture, the audio should be from that version as well and not the 70mm, right?

There’s another thing to consider when it comes to the picture. Evidence suggests several vfx shots were revised at some point between the initial release on May 25th, 1977 and more prints being struck later that year. IIRC, the white dot ships zooming into space from Yavin IV and the Falcon drifting lazily to the left to evade the Star Destroyer are two such shots where differences have been spotted. My vote would be to preserve the earliest versions if they still exist.

So Belbucus’ restoration isn’t being used anymore? Huh. Didn’t realize that.

Not sure.

Fairly certain that Belbucus’s version is still the one included with 4K77 (and Despecialized). I do have a 16mm sourced version that I cleaned up for Williarob a while back that does sound very good. That recording was done by TN1 though, not Puggo.

Well, I look at it this way: we might get the OOT before we ever get The Abyss and True Lies on Blu-ray. Whoopee.
