I have the Blu Ray of Godfather 1 and it has the Mono as an extra audio track.
The USA does but the others from around the planet don’t.

I’ve also heard before that the recent 3D IMAX release of Michael Jackson’s Thriller had a few audio changes, mostly regarding extra sound effects added, like with feature film releases that have already been mentioned. I’m not sure what was specifically changed, and I can’t exactly go back and determine it for myself, so I’ll have to go by the words of other fans. I’m also pretty certain that a surround mix was used for this presentation, while every release before this has been in stereo.
That’s on top of everything else that already differs Thriller 3D from the original, of course.

They changed Thriller’s soundtrack?!!?? Now they’ve gone too far! One of the best things about that music video (apart from Rick Baker’s makeup) is its sound design.
Unfortunately, we live in an era of film where everything on screen has to make some sort of sound or movement or else the audience will lose interest. I could go on a long rant about how sound design has been downright awful since the 90s, but this isn’t the thread for that.

Huh, I’ll see if I can upload it to MEGA. I also have the mono laserdisc audio but it’s nowhere as clean due to laser rot.
I just got the recent Death Wish 1 blu-ray and surprisingly its Mono has been kept all these years. The 2001 DVD release had abysmal sounding audio. Almost like it was run through a noise removal several times over, it was tinny as hell and grading on the ears. The blu ray sounds MUCH better
Hello, although I have uploaded many things in the past, my Mega account was taken down recently. If you are looking for something I’ve previously said I uploaded, I may not have it anymore or know where it is. I’m sorry
In The Heat of the Night was rereleased at the end of January with the original Mono mix by Criterion
I’m watching Scarface on AMC right now, and it sounds like they’ve changed the sound effects for the guns.

There’s also been examples such as Grease and Scarface where although the original mixes were not mono they still were given 5.1 remixes later on that completely revised everything.
The original audio is on the scarface bluray but compressed I imagine the laserdisc sounds better

That’s what happens when I don’t pay attention to the rest of the thread😏
Back on topic, have any of you guys seen the classic anime film, AKIRA? Recently, I watched it for the first time, and something about the film’s sound design struck me as sounding too modern for 1988. Sure enough, I happened to find a post on Blu-Ray.com that says the film’s sound effects have been tampered with on Blu-Ray, so it would appear that not even Japan is safe from this kind of audio alteration. If you want to get an idea of how the film’s sound effects used to be, watch the original English dub by Streamline Pictures (the 2002 dub by Animaze also has a lot of added effects, which is a shame, because it’s the better of the two dubs).

Which Blu-Ray release?
Every Blu-Ray release has these changes, but they were actually introduced when the film was first remastered in 2001.
one flew over the cukoo’s nest has a bunch of added foley and a 5.1 mix.
not sure if the old flipper DVD has the original mono.

This site says the old disc has a 2.0 stereo track.
Thought it would be a misprint but a reviewer of the newer 5.1 disc said the old version was stereo so guess laserdisc is the only way to go
The only thing that I noticed was butchered in the 5.1 mix for the 1998 restoration of The Wizard of Oz (1939) and its later restorations was that the first two syllables of “Oh, Toto, Toto” were deleted because the audio restorers at Warner Bros. thought that Dorothy said “Oh, To, oh, Toto.”

The new Scarface mix sounds OK with a good sound system, but the original mix is king. Especially during the final shootout and the drug deal gone wrong.
IIRC one of the DVD releases has a 5.1 mix with the original sound effects intact. And I think someone said it but yes the 2.0 Stereo mix is on the blu-ray

Every which way but loose
Any which way you can
They completly butchered the whole thing . It doesn’t sound like a movie made in the 70s anymore
Chinatown’s US Blu-ray has the original mono as an option, but the UK Blu-ray does not, sadly. The original mono for Chinatown is awesome, definitely the better track.
“You don’t really mean you’ll kill me, do you?” - Juror 8
“Silence, Earthling! My name is Darth Vader. I am an extra-terrestrial from the planet Vulcan!” - Calvin “Marty” Klein
Disney’s Sword in the Stone doesn’t have the original English mono soundtrack on the Blu-ray release but it does have the original mono soundtrack on the CAV LD.
The Swedish dub of that film is even worse since it had to be remixed into 5.1 sound for the DVD release. Keep in mind that wasn’t redubbed for the stereo release. The resulting product is a mess ! The original Swedish dub without the remixed sound is on the VHS releases which were in mono sound. 😃
Naked gun has never been released with its original mono aside from ld/vhs

The 5.1 soundtrack on the Blu Ray at least has the original sound effects. But it’s mixed very weird, the music is VERY loud and overpowers the dialogue

Home video mix instead of OG cinematic audio one?

Worth noting the 2018 Criterion Blu-Ray release of Barry Lyndon has the original mono track.
That’s expensive still.
That’s beside the point.
Wait for a sale because the company is expensive. No need for a fan edit.

You shouldn’t be rude to other users—especially not SilverWook, who doesn’t have a billion projects simultaneously running through his brain.
Day of the locust
Mono is missing from web releases
