I bought the Indy box set at Best Buy the day it came out, and it came with a free 5th disc that contained a 20 minute making-of documentary that aired around the same time the movie came out. You may want to include that.

We've already discussed that EPK. It never aired on TV and is a promotional montage put together for all movies when they are originally released. I believe it was only about 10 minutes. It will be included.

it is a 10 minutes featurette, not a EPK

lol

It's semantics but this 10 minute "featurette" would have been a part of the original EPK for Raiders. Same difference.

I agree but an EPK is something not edited.

regarding this 10 minutes featurette, it is quite interesting, since it includes rare behind the scenes footage not on the DVD boxset

I'm going to be starting my own thread about this soon. The first batch has just been shipped off to Babyhum for our combined archives for Indy. All of my masters will be used and Babyhum will be doing the menus/artwork. I've also sent him a bunch of star wars stuff so he'll be releasing that on his own with credit to me. Be on the lookout!

Why would want to do that?

Good to hear, digitalfreaknyc. I just finished downloading the Making of Raiders documentary that was posted at myspleen but I was terribly disappointed by the quality. It's watchable but far inferior to any of the SW docs that are around. I'm curious, how is the quality of your version? How was the source to begin with?

I think you'll find the source for all of the making of documentaries including the Star Wars and Indy ones from the seventies and eighties are going to be that quality as they were shot on 16mm. Unfortunately, 35mm was far to expensive to shoot a documentary on, and video was still relatively in its infancy. Bearing in mind the DVD transfer was made from a laserdisc, I think it was very good quality. I'm eagerly awaiting digitalfreaknyc's discs to see how they compare. And before you ask, there will be NO reencoding to get more than one show on a disc. They will be simple, single programme discs with a single menu (and possibly a credits page)

speaking of the superior quality of the japanese transfers of the star wars and indiana jones lasrdisc documentaries is there any way to remove the burned in japanese subtitle? Like editing it out or blacking it out or something.

There are ways to "blur out" subtitles or partially remove them. However, it makes the video look bad as a result - not to mention having to re-encode. Just watch it with the subtitles. I guess I'm kind of impartial to them because I have been learning Japanese (4 or 5 years now). I cannot understand a lot of Japanese subtitles (there's a LOT of kanji I don't know), but it's somewhat of a learning tool for me. That and the fact that most of the anime I've seen was in its fansub incarnations first then dubbed DVDs later on.

To get back on-topic; I am still looking forward to this project, and the fact that they will be single docs per disc for highest quality and will remain in their original format (which for most would be NTSC) is very good to hear.

I did my own DVD based on the US Laserdisc which includes the two documentaries about Raiders, a few months ago. And I put the two docs on a single DVD.

I recorded both on my DVD recorder Panasonic with a very good picture quality (2 hours mode) and the quality is fine.

I downloaded the first doc on myspleen, and I need to see if there big differences between them.

by the way, good job on the covers. I use the double feature cover and it looks awesome

As an update, Babyhum received my first batch of Indy/Star Wars discs and seems to be quite pleased by the quality.

Each special will be it's OWN release. Quality is the most important issue here.

Both Raiders specials will be released along with A LOT of other stuff so stay tuned!!

They were from a guy that called himself Maxiuca - he was talking about doing a proper telecine of a ROTJ film print and also a 16mm SW doco. I must try to back in contact with him

I hoped that this would appear on the official DVDs as a hidden extra. Shame.

quote "They were from a guy that called himself Maxiuca - he was talking about doing a proper telecine of a ROTJ film print and also a 16mm SW doco. I must try to back in contact with him" I new this guy from ebay when he was registered under the name mnobic, and also his maxiuca site which is no longer working. Also he no longer returns my e-mails, he was a good friend of mine in the past, selling me rare and hard to find star wars dvd stuff and he lived in warsaw poland. he was going to give me one of the first digital telecine dvdr copies of that jedi print and the a new hope documentary, and he was looking for people to help him with info on the making of the films because he wanted someone to make a fan audio commentary, and said i would help write some thing up having bought alot of the behind the scenes magazines and books off of ebay. He asked me to do the audio commentary but i don't have the equipment or knowledge how to record one, no hi speed internet access or digital audio or dvd rom drive. Plus he said he have to sell way more stuff on ebay or help getting funding from star wars fans, and directed him to get in touch with the boards at originaltrilogy.com but i guess he did'nt. I know alot of you guys are savvy knowledge wise and could have done a great commentary. he was trying to get prints for all three 16mm original versions of the films, and i kept an eye out for him telling him about some of the ones off of ebay. Both of us tryed and tryed to find a print of a pre new hope star wars with the monaural soundtrack, but no chance. He wanted to do the all of the original trilogy as newly recorded fan audio commentaries, since there was only little bits on the definitive laserdisc release, not a enough for the whole films. i know their is a whole lot of audio and video clips out their but editing them all together and making them seamless would be a chore. I reminded him of the audio snipets in the behind the magic cd rom disc two under the scene by scene sections, but some of the audio material came from the same as the definitive laserdisc release. Also at the time he even considered getting a hold of the dr. gonzo set, since their was no tr 47 or anything else as good at the time, and scrap doing at the efford of a transfer. But i was aware that some star wars fan helped by donating the print of jedi, and defray some of the cost. This guys laserdisc collection is awesome, he has nearly every pal, ntsc, or english or international version of star wars on laserdisc and some very rare disney titles or most of them. He even accuired all of the indy documentaries from a guy in the u.k. and other rare star wars stuff.

I have been in contact with maxiuca.

He is busy studying at the moment. But said he would get in contact when he is finished. I too directed him to OT. Hopefully he will be in contact soon.
