Harry Potter: Ender's Cut (Released)

These edits are basically the opposite of Anjohan’s Revisited series, where instead of making the earlier films dark like the later ones, I make the later films bright like the earlier ones. For example, the golden logo is maintained throughout. There is also a greater degree of musical continuity, with many of Williams’ themes carrying over to later films.

Here’s the changelist.

Here’s the clip playlist.

Hey, uhm, can I make a suggestion? 😊

Yes, of course.

In terms of rescoring, could you perhaps try separating channels? Works for Adywan. 😉

I’m no audio geek. Putting over a scene that wasn’t there originally is basically the limit of my abilities.

But out of curiosity, what would separating channels do?

Why don’t you go ask Anjohan? 😃

Why him? I thought you were talking about Adywan?

That was a name error, sorry. 😊
I spoke to him about it once, and his method really fascinated me. Trust me on this, K? 🙂

That’s going to make it pretty difficult to replace music. Generally you have to work with the individual channels, often rebuilding everything from scratch if all you can salvage is the dialogue from the center channel.

Otherwise you’re just laying new music on top of the original music and that’s not going to sound very good at all.

So since matching Michael Gambon’s voice would probably be too difficult, I’m thinking of dubbing over both Dumbledores. The goal here is to make the voice consistent, and that would accomplish that. However, I doubt could pull off an old man voice. Maybe I can ask my brother, since he’s great with accents (I and others have told him he should try voice acting), but other than that, I have no one, so if anyone can do a convincing “wise old mentor” voice, feel free to contact me.

I completely agree with your analysis of the Potter films. By the end they had gotten so dark, they lost all their fun.

The clips are a big improvement.

That last video is gorgeous. I think the series desperately needs this take.

I did some proof of concept color correcting on Goblet of Fire, and the effect was amazing. The musical work is so desperately needed, but the technical work involved boggles me.

Is this is completed effort or in progress?

It’s a work in progress, but having just received a comment from someone asking for the full edits, I’m wondering if I should starting people see them even if they’re not done, since most if not all the color correction is done, and that’s one of the biggest selling points. In terms of music, most of it is done too. At this point I’m mainly just polishing whenever and however I can. One thing that is incomplete, though, is the OotP opening, which is clearly just using 2D placeholders for the WB logo and title card. I would need to get 3D ones animated, so if anyone could handle that, be my guest. And that’s to say nothing of Half-Blood Prince which is still in need of OotP treatment of de-grimifying the titles. I’m thinking having them at sunset would be nice, but I guess that wouldn’t gel with the midday of the scene that follows. I have been experimenting with a midday opening, but it looks to similar to the OotP one, since I used footage from the same video. Also, the best I could for the transition from that to the dark mark in the clouds was a dissolve.

I’ve just worked on the end credits. I’m standardizing the music so they all start with that queue from the credits of the Columbus films (Harry’s Wondrous World). Keep in mind I only use a few seconds of it (the exact varying between films), not the entire first movement. The Yates films are lacking the main theme in both the opening and closing credits, for the most part, so I figured to make it easier to find enough variants for every opening, I’d give all the closings the same one. That way, I halved my workload in this area and gained a variant for HBP’s opening through repurposing the GoF closing. I’m leaving DH’s ending intact, though, as it just works better that way.

Sorry I kinda forgot about this thread since the first release, but here’s some more things I’ve been up to. I went ahead with my idea of using Fawkes the Phoenix as Dumbledore’s theme, adding it to the end of GoF and the King’s Cross scene in DH. I felt Buckbeak’s Flight was too good to only use once, so I added it to another flight scene, that of the Thestrals. Finally, I used The Quidditch Match from PS to inject some fun into the forest chase scene in DH. The color is also massively improved in that scene.

I’ve already released them. I can’t believe I forgot to post here to tell everyone!

As done as they’ll be for the time being. Someday, when I feel like rewatching the entire series, which I didn’t do this time around, I’ll watch these, and make plot-related edits afterwards. However that likely won’t be for a long time.
