Just to temper anyone’s expectations, I remember the MKV I had did have some amazing moments but it was mostly just daylight scenes early in the film. A lot of the main effects were just too difficult to reproduce for whatever reason or the creator just ran out of time or steam before losing all his work and never got it perfect. I truly think having seen this film in an actual theater with the dual projector set up that the potential value of this in a great working 3D version at home is amazing. So I am still shocked That Paramount or whomever owns the rights hasn’t mined this one yet but Jaws 3-D somehow got the treatment. I think the Mkv showed the potential of what this movie could be but is in no way even close to a definitive version of this film at home in proper 3-D. At least the one I saw.

There is a new (well new to me) version of the F13 3D out that is razor dang sharp. A ton of the misaligned 3D and shots that go flat are fixed. It’s pretty much amazing. Close as we’ll get to a real release by Paramount. It’s out there folks, just go hunting.

Any tips/hints on where to hunt? Having no luck! Thanks!

You may be talking about the same one we had been discussing earlier in the thread unless it was only created in the last year. The creator of this mkv had been doing a meticulous job until losing the drivers with his data and losing interest. I recall some of the earlier scenes were stunning, especially in the daylight (the old man who shows the eyeball he found was one of the better shots). I recall the second half of the film wasn’t completed properly and didn’t look that great unfortunately and even gave me a headache at some spots. I wish I knew more about video editing as it would be a fun project to try. I believe the last version used a Blu-ray for one eye and a foreign dvd source for the other eye.

I can’t find it either and would love to see it. It may only be on private trackers where membership is required.

Yeah, thats what I thought too. I dont want to go and join a bunch, plus my DL/UL speeds are not the best out here on DSL…so I might not hit common private tracker reqs.

Thanks. Found it and this is new and the real deal. I hope to find out more. It has the title card reminding you the opening moments are not in 3D. This is a new transfer and someone did a loving job with it. If I didn’t know better I’d say it was from inside the studio. It even has a 5.1 mix.

Was it a private tracker? Or is it easy to find and I’m just missing it? Is it SBS?

I have a subscription to a Usenet service that had it. My hat goes off to the mystery creator. Someone put some love into this and seems to have have good access to the original source material or a print.

If anyone screens this let me know what you think. I screened it last night on 150 inch projected DLP 3D projector.

Effects varied from good to fantastic, though I’m still unsure if this is a manual conversion or an actual. A lot of the slower burn effects look very good, yet some of the quick frame effects such as the harpoon and eyeball gags happen so fast I just see two images still (though that may be a limitation or my own eyes not being up to snuff).

I’m curious still to know the source of this and if it’s pure or just a reasonable attempt to simulate it.

Thanks for letting me know this was out there. Definitely in 3D throughout and has more scenes than that prior fan-made one which as you noted was flat for the last 30 minutes or so.

The 1953 Disney short Melody was originally released in 3D. None of the home video releases of this short preserve the 3D timing, not even the releases included with Fantasia 2000.

I’d love to see a restored 3-D copy of Robot Monster, which has only been released in 3-D on VHS (which never worked too well). Bonus: I believe it’s now public domain.

The other one I’d like to see is the only classic-era 3-D Warner Brothers cartoon, Lumber Jack-Rabbit from 1953, which has never been released on video in 3-D at all. Ironically, there’s a 16mm copy of it on eBay as I write this, but it’s the 1954 “flat” re-release.

A 3D film im dying to see again is Encounter in the Third Dimension An imax film from 1999. I recall watching this as preteen back in the day on a full size imax screen and it blowing me away. Since then I’ve been able to identify it on one of two 3D DVD formats, the superior of which is simply impossible to find. I also believe It was broadcast in HD 3DTV back in the days where that was a thing. I’d simply love to get a HD SBS version of this in HD.

I used to own this back in the dvd days, it came with a package of two other 3D movies in the field sequential format with ‘plug in’ glasses to sync. (which I think can only be played on tube tv’s???) But I remember the 3D was incredible. I know of a place called C&L internet club (canada based Blu-ray/DVD dealer) had one somewhat recently.

It’s a cool little item thats for sure, I remember Elvira really popped out in 3-Dimensions if you know what I mean. lol.

I’m so happy you found it, its pretty incredible isn’t it. I’d love to shake the hand of whoever put it together. I’d also love to help them do it with other silver age 3D films. I’d love seeing SPACEHUNTER, MAN WHO WASN’T THERE and a few of those low budget ones from North carolina (can’t remember their names outside of ROTTWEILER)

I did run across a pretty cool SBS of Spacehunter on a Russian tracker that looked like a left eye from a Blue ray and the Left from the old Field Sequential Japanese VHD. Oddly it looked pretty dang good, sadly it had Russian only audio but it was still fun to finally see it in somewhat decent 3D. (It’s amazing that someone went out and spent the time finding different sides to place together. Might be the only way we see a lot of the classics from here on.

Is there any way we could get the Star Wars prequels in 3D? Because they were never released on 3D Blu-Ray

Unless there is an official release I won’t hold out much hope until Glassless 3D becomes a thing and re-ignites 3D again. (which it will if it works) – I don’t think the Prequels outside of the 1st one ever got a 3D release and the first was only one the big screen so I don’t think anyone has the elements to recreate that at home.

I’d love to see them too!

The other two prequels were released in 3D—they just got one-off screenings, if that. A shame, because it’s been said the stereo quality improved with each successive prequel.

Anyone know if the Friday the 13th 3D is still floating around anywhere…?

The Friday 3D was on the usual usenet methods last I looked, that’s where I found mine. Looking to get onto MySpleen so I can add my version there in case it’s different.

Adding to the internal organ would be much appreciated.

No invites out sadly and I never got around to getting access to it. If I ever get in there I’ll upload the best copy I have of the SBS Friday 3 3D though. It’s the best one I have seen to date. I just don’t know the source, but it was better (more done) than the fan-made one we discussed here a few years ago.

Ugh, hoping someone can pull out an invite from somewhere sooner rather than later!

On the splizzeen there appears to be a new 3D release. I know nothing about it, but hoping it is superior to the old file from years back.

Let me know how it is if you get it. We can trade file sizes and see if it is the same one. The one I have starts with the text title card about the intro not being in 3D.
