Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home is the fourth film in a hexalogy.

But it’s often considered the third film in a trilogy-within-a-series, beginning with Wrath of Khan. It’s even sold this way in some box sets.

If we can say crap like “Last Crusade is the third movie in a trilogy,” we can isolate trilogies within longer series.

Hey, wait a second…how many movies are in the Star Wars series now…?

Like the Mad Max films, yes you can isolate trilogies within a longer series: the first three with Mel Gibson and then the fourth and upcoming film’s with Tom Hardy.

And for SW, this December it’ll be 9 film’s for the main series: the PT, the OT, and the ST. And that’s just for the “Skywalker Saga”…

My point is, you can’t call out Chyron for picking something that isn’t “part of a trilogy” without also calling out people who mention things like ROTJ, which hasn’t been part of a trilogy since 1999, or ROTS, which has technically never been part of a trilogy, or Last Crusade, or Lord of the Rings, and so on, since there are more than three films in their respective series.
