That is pretty cool man, I love it, will this be Widescreen or Full Screen? And what sources are you going to be using? because in the screencaps I see a lot of noise in the picture, like grain almost

The primary source will be the PAL DVD as it is the only source I could find (outside the HDTV broadcast) that was widescreen. I’m currently working in Avisynth to combat the MPEG-2 compression without affecting the film grain.

That’s pretty cool, I have the 2000 NTSC DVD, and I don’t like how the PAL get’s the original Widescreen presentation and us here with NTSC get a Pan & Scan 4:3 version, So I’d very much like to see this when it’s done

A question: why you are not using the HDTV as main source? It can’t be worse than DVD, right?

Sadly my projects are lost due to an HDD crash… 😦 | [Fundamental Collection] thread | blog.spoRv.com | fan preservation forum: fanres.com

Really? Could you be more specific, so it can be better?

Never mind. I was on mobile, so the pictures weren’t loading properly.

I’m not using the HDTV simply because it is not a good place to start. Quality might be passable, but the resolution? Not so much. Honestly, if Disney simply did a proper HD scan of the movie and broadcast it, I didn’t have to make this project in the first place. Or better yet, release a HD scan on Blu-ray.

i have 3gb file of this movie thats been upscaled using waifu2x the noise reduction on it honestly looks kind of weird. but honestly the PAL dvd is the best thing your’e going to come across in terms for sources.

So, the PAL DVD is better?!?

It’s as close as you can get for quality since PAL is a bit higher than 480p, but lower than 720p and 1080p, and the NTSC DVD is only in Full Screen and the PAL DVD is Widescreen

Over on MySpleen, I heard about a Japanese DVD that MIGHT be better, with emphasis on might. However, it seems as though that DVD is nowhere to be found online. It would really be of great help to this project because it might be the only other DVD that is widescreen.

You can keep working on this and then make a v1.5 or v2.0 in the future, make better upgrades to it later on, that’s what I’m doing for my fan-edit of Bohemian Rhapsody, I’m just going to add the full Live Aid scene in it and later on I might do some color corrections and more enhancements to make it better

I’ve rendered a second version, but after viewing the video on my Huawei P20 phone via Chrome Remote Desktop, I decided to experiment with the saturation.

What do you guys think? More, less or none?

I would lower the saturation, you can see the colors expanding out of the lines, also I would try to use a little bit of denoising and sharpening

There is too much noise on the frame, and the colors are too vibrant and bright, I think you should lower the saturation some, but overall it looks very good 😃

Alright, how’s this? Grain removed, less saturation and some sharpening.

That looks pretty good, I like how you did not go overboard with the DNR and have a faint Grain “layer” on it, it looks really good, the colors look great, I compared with my DVD using my Laptop and the colors are spot on, It does not need any more color corrections, all I can say is the colors look pretty accurate, you did an amazing job cleaning this up, spot on man! Can’t wait for the full release! Good Luck man 😃

EDIT: What I mean by the fine grain layer is you didn’t go crazy with the DNR and make the image soft like some studios do

All right, that’s the video done. Now it’s time for audio. There is a Laserdisc release of the movie that I’m hoping somebody out there might capture the audio from. Is anybody willing to help out?
