That way, you are free to have them appear with no need for extra explanation or FX sequences. So you can move scenes around easier.True… Rey and Poe never meet face to face until the 2/3 mark.
Which is why it’s so silly for Poe to be the major character that he has become.
One of the biggest wasted opportunities in TLJ is the complete lack of Kylo/Finn conflict, which would efficiently draw focus back to the main characters of Kylo, Finn, and Rey.
