I wanted to inform you that a newly fixed Empire Strikes Back has been rendering for a few days and will be done very soon. I plan to up the newly fixed Empire in a matter of days. I originaly used Dr. Gonzo's as the 1980 version and it was nothing but trouble to work with. I now used the TR47 version and all seemed to edit smoothly.

Yes, but im confused. Is the entire release "SPLIT-SCREEN_EP5.part001.rar"

Or is the "Wookie.Groomers.FIXED.EmpireStrikesBack.SplitScreenDVD.rar" at small fix?

Get both.

First get SPLIT-SCREEN_EP5.parts
Keep the files VTS_01_*.*
Replace the files VIDEO_TS.IFO & .BUP with ones from Wookie.Groomers.FIXED.ESB...rar

Use .SFV or .MD5 to test the files. Then you'll have the complete "FIXED" version.
Only if they pass .SFV or .MD5 test, can you be confident (gazillion-to-one probability)
you've got byte-for-byte clones of "FIXED" files posted by Wookie Groomer himself.

Shout out thanks to Wookie Groomer himself
and blow raspberries to whomever changed the .IFO & .BUP and lost the .NFO along the way.
Have you never heard of Preservation ??? Checksums I tell you !

Keep the "non-FIXED" .NFO if you like, but it describes the older Dr.Gonzo-based release, which isn't the one you've got.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Thanks, snagged it. Its on the newsgroups, alt.binaries.starwars.

Quick question, since the NFO is missing, what was fixed with these files? I ran the movie just fine with the other files.

I'm sure you did.
But they are different to the files Wookie Groomer posted in February.
What's different about them ?
Bit 7 of the Prohibited Region Mask at byte-offset 0x23

Blaksvn's torrent also has the changed ones -- different to the ones Wookie Groomer posted in Feb.
Who changed them ? Why ? When ? . . . Who knows ?

In the name of Preservation, I'm giving you the un-changed files, exactly as they were posted by Wookie Groomer.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I've been watching the forum here for a while, and one thing that I've not seen much of, with a few exceptions, are screenshots of the DVD menus on fan-produced preservation of the OT. I've started a thread under the "Preservation And Fan Edits" heading in hopes that people might post screenshots here just for comparison purposes. Hopefully, I am not the only person interested in the stylistic directions that the folks working on these various productions take, so please, if you have a completed fan preservation, post a few screenshots of what your menus look like, as many of these are often little works of art in and of themselves.

More confusion. What files are the original, the ones in the fix or the main release posted on the newsgroups the other day?

I grow tired of answering, so this will be the last time ...

Hmmm ... now let's think about this ...
If the main release had contained the original files, then I wouldn't have posted the fix !

SPLIT-SCREEN_EP5.part001.rar contains files which are different than those posted by Wookie Groomer in February.
Wookie.Groomers.FIXED.EmpireStrikesBack.SplitScreenDVD.rar contains files which are identical to those posted by Wookie Groomer in February.

The files which match the .SFV are identical to Wookie Groomer's files from February.
The files which match the .MD5 are identical to Wookie Groomer's files from February.
The files which don't match the .SFV and don't match the .MD5 are different than those posted by Wookie Groomer in February.

Furthermore,
ANH_SPLITSCREEN.torrent,
"Wookie Groomer Presents - The Empire Strikes Back 1980-2004 Splitscreen - MYSPLEEN Release.torrent", and
"Split-Screen - Jedi.torrent" all contain files which are different than those originally posted by Wookie Groomer.

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Anyone have DVD case sleeves for these releases? Thin case sleeve would be a plus, since I have thin cases, but I can modify the standard.

Hi all,

Just watched these, thanks to ocpmovie (cheers garret), and I've gotta big up Wookie Groomer for his fantastic work that will long stand out in my collection for its unique and informative take on the varying changes to my favourite films throughout the years.

The one thing that stood out the most for me was the endor celebration at the end of ROTJ. So many cuts in the 2004 version, luke and leias hug especially has been cut to hell, for the worse without a shadow of a doubt. Throughout the trilogy I'd become so used to seeing the lower half of the screen black while the various special edition scenes played out, that seeing the top half go black here and there I went back and watched it in slow motion. While the 2004 half does have a few extened scenes of the ewoks, rebels and threepio dancing, both the hug, and Luke's contented expression as he turns to the ghosts (now ruined BTW), suffer greatley in the 2004 version.

Whilst I thought I was fully aware of even the minor changes in the trilogy, this one has thrown me of my guard (which IMO is a credit again to Wookie Groomer).

What are other peoples thoughts on this seemingly pointless dismissal of some very powerful frames?

Yea, the luke/ghost scene at the end was horrible. What was the reason for chopping it up and making it shorter? I am also not 100% sure i like the young anakin ghost,.

IMO (and this is OT) the young Anakin ghost is inconsistant. Obiwan's ghost appeared as when he died, Anakin's should have as well. Even if you consider his death to have had occured when he was young, he was still redeemed and died that way when he was older.
