I’m glad you enjoyed the episode, but… there was also that one scene in The End of Time where the Doctor freefalled several hundred feet, crashed through a glass ceiling, and was still well enough to aim a gun…

And there was also the one scene in Logopolis where falling from a telescope injured the Doctor enough to cause a regeneration.

its like they make this stuff up as they go along.

True, unfortunately consistency is not one of Dr. Who’s strong points.

I didn’t know Mrs. Lincoln watched Doctor Who.

Get out.

Chill

Start using it in the right contexts then. Or better yet, stop using it at all. Either way, stop cluttering up threads with the same thing over and over again.

I still don’t understand what he meant by it. Was it just a joke of some sort?

Believe it or not, it’s not just you this time. None of us get it. It seems to be a joke, but if it is, it isn’t funny.

It started when I was critical about Venom, and he used it right, but it was still irritating. The phrase is meant to silence criticism. Then it sort of nose-dived from there, with the various permutations and alterations further muddying the waters that now, it’s a dead meme.

I for one am very glad to see a complete reboot.

A compete reboot? I haven’t heard that is what they were doing. I am pretty sure the rest of the continuity still counts. I for one would not want to see over 50 years of Dr. Who thrown into the trash.

Sorry for being unclear – I guess I meant partial reboot. The series was getting gooey.

I was rewatching Series 6, and holy shit did it get bad fast. Series 5 was awesome. But the whole season-long over-arching plot was just too ambitious and collapsed on in itself, and I felt embarrassed watching some of it. Something I did not feel with Series 5, even at its worst.

I finally watched the new episode (cable in my dorm doesn’t get BBCA, but I’m back home for the weekend so I’ll at least see the next episode before going back). Anyway, I rather enjoyed it, and I loved Whitaker, even if she seemed to be doing a Tennant impression at times (I’m sure she’ll grow into her own soon enough). I am pissed about two things though. Why the hell did they not have a title sequence? I kept waiting for it, and it was horribly disappointing that they just skipped it. I assume they just really wanted a cold open for the premiere of the season and we’ll get it this week, but it really bugged me.

Also

Thought it was lame that they just killed off Grace, the older woman, like they did.

The main conflict had basically ended, it seemed like her death was written in as an afterthought.

I will say one thing that disappointed me was that I thought the Doctor would have a bigger (and funnier) reaction when the Doctor found out he was now a she.

Yep, that whole River Song arc was one of the lugubrious quagmires.

Even worse, there are so many moments in it that are just so great (the series opener is really solid, as is all of The God Complex) that just get bogged down by Moffat refusing to let things go. Remember how great The Lodger was? Well, have another one, only have it be one of the worst episodes you’ll ever see. And the end of The God Complex would have been great to let the Ponds go, but they just had to stick around and be boring for half of series 7.

This era of the show is endlessly frustrating. I’m glad it’s finally ended.

I know words are missing, but which ones?!

I have corrected the post. I really need to proofread better.

That was one thing I was glad of. The less they draw attention to it the better.

I would think it logical that a person that had been a man for hundreds of years, would have big reaction to suddenly becoming a woman.

It would make sense either way for me, but I am glad there wasn’t a lot of emphasis on it. The Doctor was never really bothered at having become an old man after being young Matt Smith for hundreds of years.

But he had been an old man before. He is used to being a man of varying ages. Also, he is, regardless of appearance, old. The Doctor has never, ever been a woman before. Finally, I could have he was bothered at being old in “Deep Breath”.
