Just curious has anyone seen this photo of Vader elsewhere?? I’ve never seen it outside of this box art which I have seen a zillion times!

It’s an odd photo, to be sure. The arms and gloves seem off. Like it’s on a mannequin or something. It may simply be a previously unpublished photo Kenner had access to? I’m guessing it’s the ROTJ suit?
Where were you in '77?

Nah he definitely has arms and gloves in that photo.
Is that not a photo of the toy? It looks to me like it’s just the toy.

Interesting

Nope. Definitely not the Toy.

No toy. No toy. You’re the toy!
In Revenge of the Sith, there is a very subtle cross-fade edit of Anakin and Palp.

I think the photo is from the 90’s and most like does have a mannequin inside it. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but it’s related to the Magic of Myth exhibition. I have the untouched photo in low-res but it doesn’t tell anything more.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

A mannequin sounds realistic given the pose. Any chance you could post that image?? That was actually the main reason I posted about it.

The Han GIF was in response to Frinks post but ok.
It’s def. a full scale suit in that photo. But it’s not a screen used Vader suit. It might have some screen used bits here and there, but over all it looks like one of the 90’s promotional suits used for tours and such. And yes, it’s almost assuredly on a mannequin in that photo.

Cool. I’ve literally never seen the original photo before so thanks!
The arms were a bit of a giveaway. Dave Prowse has beefier limbs. That was an odd shot for Kenner to pick out of what must be hundreds or more Vader photos to choose from.

Kinda reminds me of when Universal used a photo of Boris Karloff in a test makeup for Frankenstein on a VHS cover instead of choosing from dozens of photos of him in the finalized makeup!
If there is one scene in the first SW that doesn’t make any sense it’s when Han and Chewie chase after the stormtroopers only to meet a dead end when in the Death Star.
Think about it. The stormtroopers outnumber Han and Chewie 5 or 6 to 2, yet they run away like scared little children and only fight back when they’re cornered.
“They let us go. It’s the only explanation for the ease of our escape… They’re tracking us.”
Seems like I gotta point this out often, but the Empire wasn’t trying to kill our heroes on the Death Star. If Han hadn’t run away, he coulda’ killed all of those guys! But, of course, he didn’t know that at the time. Han went charging at them because he “certainly has a lot of courage” and it gave the rest a chance to escape.
Han had the element of surprise in his favor , the Stormtroopers were not used to being challenged on their home turf , and lost their wits momentarily and ran in fear of a "mad berserker " . same thing happened with Indiana Jones and the Thugee guards in Temple Of Doom .made perfect sense to me . and It was hillarious .although the 97 special edition of Star Wars onward built it up a bit too much with legions in the hangar instead of a few guards
That SE shot removing the dead end to the corridor made little sense. You have armed and dangerous interlopers on a massive space station running loose, and all these bucketheads are just standing at attention in a hangar?
I don’t think any of those officers standing on the upper level even react to the shots being fired. None of the troopers seem to be as far back as the officers that are presumably reviewing them, either. In fact, the whole perspective of this shot seems wonky. And that TIE fighter is either floating or resting on some crates, because it surely can’t be gripped from up above by the fragile panels?
