“Mint condition” as in “excellent condition”, like “as good as brand new”? Jeez! “Die Hard” and “Last Crusade”? Count me in for both.

If anyone’s interested in donating towards the scanning, I need to pay poita back about $230 for a recent expense that he paid for me.

Thanks everyone!

Die Hard looks excellent on 4K Blu-ray. I’ve never seen it on 35mm, so I’m no expert on the original color timing, but dang, the 4K Blu-ray looks excellent.

When I get a 4k Blu-Ray player, that is the first movie I am going to purchase!! I’ve seen clips of the 4k remaster and its phenomenal.

And before you do that do you want to give me a donation maybe because you’re a big big Disney fan? 😉 Seriously guys I must pay poita back the $230 soon or that’s money he can’t spend on his own endeavours, if anyone can help send me a message. I will give you full previews of my scans in return.

While we’re on the topic, Disney has announced a 4K release of The Lion King for December.

Good. Once they release it that should incentivise people to help financially to scan the print I have! 😉 Lion King is completely digital, so they’re not going to give a second thought to how it looked on film. Aladdin at least is quite similar and not too mutilated (and I saw it a couple of years ago in a cinema from a print), but from the release my friends did we can see that it’s quite a different experience on 35mm as well.

Also keep in mind that there have been several edits in „The Lion King“ since the theatrical release in 1994. The waterfalls are transparent now, the crocodiles got family-friendlier teeth and so on. 😉

When you get to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, I’d be happy to send over a bog-standard Walt Disney Home Video Sorcerer Mickey logo, which is the one that appeared on the initial version of the very first VHS release.

We have access to two prints of Mary Poppins through our US scanner, both of which should be in excellent condition. But I would suggest checking the Bluray first before committing stupid money to scanning it as I hear the bluray is very good.

Oh yeah, those you have access to Im sure are definitely better than this one

Hello, although I have uploaded many things in the past, my Mega account was taken down recently. If you are looking for something I’ve previously said I uploaded, I may not have it anymore or know where it is. I’m sorry

Oh yes you would not be disappointed with condition that’s for sure.

This is my absolute dream. I don’t even know how you can find the 35mm films.

Beauty and the Beast is the one on this list that I’m dying to find. This title has suffered the most among the renaissance era after remastering for DVD and Bluray since the Laserdisc release.

The original ratio has been changed to 16:9, causing cropping and losing parts of the picture. The color changes to brighten the film also are drastically different and looks awful.

Please let me know how this process can be done. And I’d like to know how I can contribute.

Thanks

Um, what are you talking about? BATB was never shown in the academy ratio. See for yourself: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101414/technical?ref_=tt_dt_spec

Beauty and the Beast’s CAPS source ratio is 1.66, yes, but it was hard matted to 1.85 on 35mm as the directors intended. There’s a preservation project currently in progress for an Italian print somewhere on this site with the same ratio. The only way you can see the film as close to the original CAPS ratio as possible in HD is through the 3-D Blu-ray. Same for Lion King.

Thanks for the info. Do you know how many of these titles have been scanned and available?

Apologies. Just checked BATB and it looks mostly 1.78 in 3-D. Lion King is closer to 1.66 in 3-D.

Both BATB and Lion King are currently in progress. Sorry, that’s all I know.

@RU.08: What about Snow White ? How many copies do you have access to and which issue version it is/are they ? Just remember The 1960 re-issue version (and all the others after this one) do cut and change some things that were there before, including some animated effects and credits). All the prints with the RKO logo should be the original version as seen in it’s original release.

Thansk to answer

I’m sorry my bad. The original negative was 1.66 but now the top and bottom has been cropped to fit 16:9.
I have the BATB Laserdisc and it is letterboxed which shows the complete picture.

If you take a look at the link below or google BATB laserdisc bluray comparison, You’ll see what I mean.

Some prints might be open matte, but it’s definitely a flat 1.85:1 film.
