No. I admit I was wrong about that.

I took the line about buying women’s clothes as just something funny to say. We haven’t seen every moment of the Doctors life. Could have been any number of reasons.

I particularly liked the scene where The Doctor is irritated at Tim Shaw for pulling a tooth from someone he just killed, as though that crossed the line for totally disrespecting the victim. She seems genuinely more bothered by that than the killing. For me, that’s the kind of depth of character & scene that’s been missing the past few years.

The thing about knives. The Doctor needs to learn that knives unlike guns can be used in peaceful ways. Knives are very useful tools at times, that is why we all have them in our kitchen. There is nothing wrong with carrying a knife. Just ask Macgyver.

That was pretty much the only real eye-rolly moment in the episode but it makes sense given the serious problems they have with them over there.

Hmm, that video talks about knives the way we talk about guns.

Perhaps in the current climate in the U.K., it does makes some sense for the Doctor to say what she said.

I am forced to admit. She is better than I thought she’d be in the role. Much better. I was wrong and I am sorry.

I do have a couple of minor complaints about the episode. How could she fall from the sky down into a train without breaking every bone of her body and having to regenerate again?

Glad you gave it a shot. People have addressed the other two questions, but this one can be explained by the post-regeneration healing abilities of the Doctor. The 10th Doctor grew a whole hand back. Some broken bones would probably also quickly be dealt with?

I think it was a good move to not pick up directly from the cliffhanger. They really want to start the era fresh, and this way newcomers can absolutely tune in without feeling like they have missed anything at all.

Psh, as if a measly fall could seriously injure the Doctor!

The blue elephant in the room.

I disagree. I think cliffhangers should be resolved from picking up exactly where it left off. It just makes sense.

That is one thing I didn’t like about the first episode of the Twelfth Doctor. At the end of “Time of Doctor”, the Tardis is crashing and the Doctor doesn’t remember how to land it. Next we see dinosaur appear in the Victorian Era, with the Tardis in its mouth. No explanation as to how we got from point A to point B.

this way newcomers can absolutely tune in without feeling like they have missed anything at all.

It is not too difficult for newcomers to watch “Twice Upon a Time”.

One thing that did surprise me was that right before the premier, instead of airing “Twice Upon a Time” (which is what they should have done), then instead showed “Day of the Doctor”.

It’s not difficult but the people making it, and we, want it to be a successful show. It’s a fresh start, and I’ve read from a lot of people (including many in this thread) that they’re tuning in and enjoying it for the first time in many years. Others who have never watched the show are asking “what’s a good time to start?” and seem quite relieved to know that the answer is “right this moment”.

Why have them go back and watch an era (which I love, but one which has abysmal ratings and a lot of disdain for it)? And then to know what’s going on in ‘Twice’, they need to go further back. And further, and further. Clean breaks and jumping on points are important, especially when the entire production team has changed. People very easily feel overwhelmed by how much of this show there is, even based on the length of just the new series.

It would be one thing if this resulted in an actual plot hole, but that’s not the case. She was falling and then she fell into a train immediately after regenerating. I think they handled it perfectly. And based on the reviews and feedback of others who either never watched before, or lost interest, it seems to have worked.

If they want a clean break, they shouldn’t have ended the last episode with a cliffhanger. But I agree, it didn’t leave a plot hole.

Exactly! I loved that.

I’m glad you enjoyed the episode, but… there was also that one scene in The End of Time where the Doctor freefalled several hundred feet, crashed through a glass ceiling, and was still well enough to aim a gun…

What I mean to say is… the incredible improbability here is nothing new… and can easily be explained away by the weirdness that is regenerating.

True, unfortunately consistency is not one of Dr. Who’s strong points.
