Haven’t seen those in closed groups, at least not yet. Twitter is infested with them now.

This is why I don’t consider myself disenfranchised not to be part of social media.

Yeah, social media is terrible. But most seem content with it. We’re finally seeing a lot of backlash, mostly in the wake of the past election but it predates it a little.

It has its benefits. I remember a Marx Brothers Facebook group I was a part of, and it was fantastic, with some of the best, most notable Marx Bros. scholars in it. I don’t think they’d all go to a forum if they didn’t have their personal feed on the same site. But Facebook is no where near as organized and useful as your traditional forum.

I wish there was still the Random Political Thoughts thread, because it’d be great for this lighthearted video.

Rightwing fraud, Jordan Peterson, claims to have not slept “at all” for 25 days!! Holy fuck I’ve never heard a more blatant lie! I guess I’m just misguided.

The Current Events thread is a great place for random political thoughts. I requested my thread to be closed because it ended up only splitting the conversation between here and there, making it very difficult to follow along.

I can see now why you think he’s some kind of existential threat to humanity. You take him literally, always.

You’d sound just as insane if I put a microphone in front of you, gave you an audience, and they took everything you said literally.

Your obsession with the man is unhealthy.

Video was funny, though.

Uh, I admit that I say stupid shit all the time, but I’ve never said anything that stupid. Ever. I’ve never said that I haven’t slept “at all” for 25 days when apparently I meant that I just figuratively didn’t sleep at all for 25 days? If I told you that I once went 150 days (twice as long as the world record) without eating anything “at all”, and I said it dead serious, you’d think I was full of shit. I love how this guy complains about postmodernists all the time, when he is the most postmodernist thinker I’ve ever heard. He often totally disregards any sort of scientific reality or seemingly “objective” truth whenever it suits him, like when he claimed that mushrooms and psychedelics are evidence of the supernatural, or that everyone is subconsciously a Christian, or that it’s possible to stay awake for 25 days straight because of apple cider (the whole reason he even brought that up was to excuse his embarrassing discussion with Sam Harris), or that truth is only what makes life better for mankind. If that shit isn’t postmodernist then I don’t know what is.

And I am insane, I admit that. Everyone knows that.

And I also never said that he was a threat to humanity, so nice disingenuousness there. You almost got away with it, sort of. I just think that he’s full of shit, as evidence by what he says, and I despise that people take him seriously so I like to pick him apart whenever the opportunity arises. I don’t think he’s a threat; I know full well that people would latch on to some other huckster if Jordan Peterson disappeared tomorrow. The reason I hate him is because he’s dishonest and I hate that he makes so much money from his insipid shit because, honestly, I think my writing and commentary is a million times better. That’s why I hate Jordan Peterson.

If you’re implying that I’m obsessed with you then you have delusions of grandeur.

How can you stay away for that long?

You can’t. Tis a joke. The most any human can stay awake is about 11 days, and the effects of attempting to go this long can be life-threatening, and if it doesn’t kill you, it can cause permanent physiological damage. This is why preventing prisoners from sleeping is considered a form of torture.

Jordan Peterson more than doubled that record.

I thought I saw somewhere that if you go without sleep for long enough(much shorter than 3 weeks), that you start having hallucinations.

Kanye West has got to be one of the stupidest people in human history. This is no surprise though because almost 40% of Trump supporters wish that the South had won the Civil War, so he’s right at home with the rest of the pro-slavery crowd.

The 13th Amendment didn’t abolish all slavery.

I just read his stupid-ass tweet. Huffpost was the headline I shared. Prison labor is slavery, so I’m in favor of outlawing that, but I don’t think that “abolishing” the amendment that prohibited slavery by and large is a good idea. I’m getting really tired of people saying stupid shit, and then rephrasing it to make it sound less stupid and then wondering why everyone called them out in the first place. Anyway, Kanye is trash and dumber than dirt.

Oh yeah, that happens too. Also organ failure.

I am probably going to get in trouble for this: I don’t consider requiring convicted prisoners to work under reasonable conditions to be slavery. I think it is part of their punishment for the crime they are convicted of. If it is believed that the conditions are too harsh or too much work is required for a given crime, arguing that the 8th amendment was violated is the solution.

Isn’t the main issue that they can’t be forced to work for a private company?

I don’t have a big problem with it as long at it is only done with convicted prisoners, and done humanely and under reasonable and fair conditions and the 8th amendment is applied properly.
