I’m disappointed that nobody is paying attention to my suggestion. I thought it was a good idea, actually.

So I just discovered recently about the Easter egg where inside the cockpit of the Tantive IV they placed a small Star Wars poster and a Playboy pinup. Here’s a pic (using a slightly blurred version for obvious reasons).

!

However while I can’t speak for the pinup since I don’t even know which one it is a closer examination shows that the movie poster is actually the 1984 VHS which obviously couldnt have existed yet at the time the movie was made.

!

!

!

Note how you can just spot out the red triangle with Hi-Fi on it??

Pretty sure the SW poster has been added later. I’ve heard about that Playboy poster before, though.

Someone has to put those into a Rogue One fanedit. 😉

I thought perhaps that poster might have been added to the model during production on ROTJ, but the VHS box for Star Wars didn’t look like that until around 1984 or so.

I thought it was a case of covering up the Playboy poster with the Star Wars one so that they could put the model on display.

Jedit: Nope, some cursory googling revealed they are indeed both in there.

I just realized that both The Last Jedi and Solo use the same music from the original TIE Fighter attack on the Falcon scene in ANH during exciting scenes of the Falcon flying. I realize this is not the first time that music has been reused (Im quite sure it plays at some point during the space battle in ROTJ), but it still kinda feels like a cheat.

I mean, I’ll be the first to admit that it totally works for me. I don’t think it’s possible for me to not get a spike of adrenaline when that music cues up. But I can’t help but feel like it’s a bit of a cheap move playing on my nostalgia when we know that Williams and Powell are both capable of writing new material that elicits similar feelings (just listen to the music that plays during the Falcon’s escape from Jakku during TFA).

To be fair, almost the entire musical cue that accompanies that scene in Solo is a rehash of previously existing material.

I don’t mind it much, because (1) Powell’s complete score has more than enough new themes/motifs to compensate, and (2) the music fits the scene well.

Yeah, like I said, it works. I think what really made it stand out is that TLJ had also just used that same music, ALSO for an exciting Millennium Falcon action scene (when Chewie flies through the red crystal cave), only six months earlier. Just feels a little too samey.

it felt strange to me that in The Force Awakens , when Rey calls the lightsaber to her hand during the end battle , they used the same music from A New Hope where Luke’s aunt and uncle are killed , but the emotional resonance of the cue still works for me . I also hear many of the OT themes in my head applied to different scenes when reading Star Wars comics or novels .The audiobooks have made extensive use of them over the years as well .I never thought it cheapened anything and while I welcome new themes , I hope the old ones never die , they are part of what makes Star Wars feel like Star Wars to me.

That music also plays in a lot of Star Wars video games. It hadn’t only been used twice before TLJ used it.
