I’m talking about shielding children from the more grim facts of life by shielding everyone from them. For example, “This book shouldn’t be in stores because children might get their hands on it.” If you want to deprive your children of certain media and certain images, then that’s your problem and your children can suffer for it, but don’t do it in a way that affects innocent people, including children that aren’t subjected to terrible helicopter parents.
