Also I must admit my understanding of DW is very limited, but HAS it always been a male? I thought it was kinda like a trill. Sure it always HAS been a male, but does it HAVE to be? I mean it’s not like Luke was suddenly a woman in the ST or anything, doesn’t the very gimmick of the series enable the doctor to be a woman sometimes?
The Doctor turned into a woman in The Curse Of The Fatal Death, which was a one off comedy special that aired during a charity telethon in the 1990’s. Coincidentally, that was written by Steven Moffat, who worked on the new version of the show until recently.
Non-canon as far as I know.
Yes, I’m just saying the idea has been around a while. If you count the Peter Cushing Dalek movies, the 1970’s stage play, and an animated web series, there are a lot of non-canon Doctors floating around.
