I don't have one myself, but my brother's friend has a Kenobi version, I think it's sweet as... as... something...

Especially the way when you activate it it travels up the tube like a LightSaber should.

Like I said in a similar thread, I got to see and handle almost every different lightsaber from Master Replicas at CIII.

The only problem I have with the Darth Vader model is that, due to the very nature of red LEDs, it is a little dim.

I'd really love to have an EIII Kenobi saber, but I don't think they have any plans to make it available yet.

Chalt, what version of Kenobi's saber do you have?

These realistic lightsabers are far too expensive. I'm a SW fan alright, and I'm willing to spend money on it, but even I have limits

Huh? The force FX are the cheaper models.

The higher end Master Replicas are around 350 bucks.

I don't have one, but they do look very nice.

To stray ever so slightly from the topic, I almost ordered a particular piece of merchandise from MaterReplicas before they decided to NOT release it.

They had a letter jacket that was battery-powered. The back had a picture of Vader's TIE going after an X-Wing with the Death Star in the background.
Why was it powered?

Because the back image had fiber optics running through it. The stars would twinkle, Vader's weapons would attack and the X-Wing would catch fire. (Assuming I'm remembering everything correctly).

It was something like $400, but I was more than willing to pay it. It was suppose to be out in June of either 03 or 04, but they cancelled it before it ever went on sale.

How cheap was "at cost"?

I got to see some of those in action at the Episode III premiere. They looked great, and are very original. My complaint with them though is that the blades are a bit thin and the orange tip all but ruins the look. Still, the handles are sweet, and the removability of the blade is a nice feature.

Made for IE Forum's Episode III theme month - May 2005.

Those are for the ones who put them on the wall probably.

KJ, that is the major reason why I want a Parks Saber, the blade detaches so you have a perfect hilt replica and a functional full lightsaber prop all in one.

I'm pretty sure they said it was weather-proof. Most of the electronics were buried deep inside the jacket.
The advantage of the fiber optics was that the actual light source was a fair distance away from the light that you actually saw (I hope I wrote that right).

My brother's aforementioned friend with a Force FX came out last night, and we shot him using it with a video camera..

And I swear the lightsaber looks 100% real in the video. It's insane.

Hmm, did the prototypes ever end up on the market?

Don't think they did. There is not a word to be found about the jacket at the MasterReplicas site.

I never got into the whole prop collecting thing (too expensive, especially for something that you're just supposed to look at), but when I finally saw an FX in person, I was blown away!

The hilts are incredible, they look very authentic and have a real nice heft, but when you turn it on- wow! I almost blinded myself the first time! When you use things at night or in the dark they look and sound like a real lightsaber. These things are really a dream come true for me.
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!
