you are so basic
You’re not allowed to disagree with warbler in this thread anymore remember? It’s mean to not agree with warbler and he’ll report you.
That is also an asinine response.
It seems to be pretty in line with your m.o.
The Person in Question
I’m pretty concerned about how a Trump Supreme Court will handle the rights defended by the Supreme Court in the past. I think restricting gay marriage (and gay rights in general), restricting abortion and birth control rights, as well as the protection of draconian obscenity laws could end up being forced on us by this fascistic rightwing court that Trump wants to construct.

IMO Round 1 is certain to overturn both Obergefell and Roe. Round 2 is going to be centered on overturning Griswold, striking down the Civil Rights Act, and the remainder of the Voting Rights Act – and we’ll be counting on Justice Roberts to hold the line there. Yeah, that Justice Roberts. A Republican-dominated court we’ve lived with for decades (might actually be over a century, not sure). This court would be different.
Fuck.

The only good thing is that I don’t think they’ll be able to put those back in the bottle. There will be blood in the streets if they do. It’s a perfect example of when violence is justified.

The thing is, I think Roberts can be counted on to protect the parts of the Voting Rights Act he didn’t already gut, so it’s not hopeless. Civil Rights Act could see trouble though.
The country needs a revolution (ideally a peaceful one, but if that’s impossible, then potentially a violent one) to get rid of both corporate and theocratic influences in our government.

most countries do at this point in time. in brazil, one of the mottos of the candidate that’s in the lead for the upcoming presidential election is “brazil above everything, god above everyone”, and he intends to make abortion and gay marriage crimes due to those practices being against the “traditional brazilian family and their christian values”, for example.
Well, fucks like him have to go. We as a species need to outgrow that regressive crap.

Plenty of christian values on display at Carnival in Rio every year. Makes Mardi Gras look like a Disney film. 😉
Where were you in '77?

hahaha yeah those are always a fun ride 😉 (i’m from rio 😃)

in democracies there are ways to solve problems without resorting to an actual revolution.

The discussion was triggered by the mention of upcoming challenges to the Voting Rights Act under the new court. I’m not sure large swaths of this country qualified as functional democracies prior to the VRA, and I see no reason to believe they’d qualify as such after it’s (hypothetically) struck down.
That said, I think the (remaining bits of the) VRA will survive, unless Trump is able to also replace Roberts or a moderate at some point in the future. But if he does, it’s toast.

Then lets not talk revolution unless and until that does happens and Jim Crow returns.

I’m the one talking revolution, so if you’re going to effectively participate in the discussion then you need to actually address the person whose points you’re complaining about. Your standards are awful, though. You think it should get as bad as Jim Crow returning before revolution is necessary? What about the right to gay marriage getting rescinded?

Random political thought:
I’ve seen a lot of “leftists” vs. “liberals” stuff lately, and I wonder, since when did “liberals” become synonymous with specifically center-left democrats? I always thought “liberal” was just a general term that encompassed the entire left.
A lot of center-right and even straight-up rightwing people have been trying to make some distinction between “liberals” and people that are more socialistic as a way to co-opt the term liberal.

Funny, I saw this the other day on youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlIjMJBSnRE
I miss the days back when in the original politics thread, it was basically just me and the conservatives.

That’s a perfect example. PragerU is a rightwing propaganda outlet.

I’ve actually seen it mostly from people identifying as “leftist.”
I bet it’s in response to people on the right identifying as “classical liberals” and such. The phenomenon I’m referring to started on the center and right about three or four years ago.

Just as the right has the alt-right, whose views are too extreme or racist for the typical conservative, the left has been overrun with wackos who have as much in common with their far-right “enemies” as they do with their own party (see: Horseshoe Theory).
Those who are left-leaning but have some views that are traditionally (or even more recently) seen as conservative often adopt the label of “classical liberal” to separate themselves from a left wing that is increasingly irrational and emotionally driven.
