UPDATE:

By now you know that there will be no Criterion Collection edition of STM. But, for at least a limited time, the CapedWonder site at capedwonder.com may have given us a clue as to what we could expect out of a 4K edition ( we can now assume this is an in house WB release). This ad is being touted as the “35MM Silver Screen Edition”, and it looks to be a crisp, colorful print at that. The announcer here sure resembles the original one from 1978.

If this is a personal project a la the “Star Wars 35mm Silver Screen Edition”, then whoever is behind this one sure did an excellent job with what he/she had to work with.

Remember, last year the CapedWonder site offered us the TV cut in pan and scan, and that was a clue on the eventual WB Archive Blu Ray issue of the cut in widescreen.

Your thoughts, fans…
