I also don’t recall ever having to call anyone at work by their first name. Even when I was only about fifteen and got my first job I never had to call anyone sir or ma’am or anything like that.

ok, i agree. if i meet any superiors i would probably do that too. our (western) culture is very informal these days (in almost all spheres).
