You lucky bastard. The only thing in the world that would have ever made me declare a religious preference... catholic schoolgirls.

Eh.. I am not sure I like where this thread is going.

And yeah, I keep hearing that school is the best time of your life. I might believe that when I am older. I just hope I don't live Ric's life.

You get down to your KNEES tight NOW and beg to GOD with TEARS in your eyes so that you never, EVER have to live a single day, a single MINUTE, of a life as HORRIBLE as mine. And thank God every single day for you being in school yet, you have no IDEA how BAD it gets! The burning flames of HELL are nothing compared to it, NOTHING!

I had no worries and I graduated just fine. Top 10% of my class. Moved on to college and got both a BA and an MA with a high GPA.

I don't think either of us mean taking a slacker attitude towards it all. Just don't let things bother you and get in the way of your goals. Too many people freak out over the little things and it stops them from being able to move forward in the completion of their goals. What happens, happens. You can't control everything. Accept what happens and move on. Learn from mistakes. Improve on them. Accept success without flaunting it (it will bite you in the ass later). See what we mean? When I was an RA in college, I had a bit of a laissez-faire attitude to it all. Most of the rest of the RA staff freaked out over every little thing. We had several quit, several on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Me? I had one of the best years of my college life. I was balancing a senior year classload (upper level business and foreign language classes), working as an RA, and was part of an honor fraternity. If you accept what's handed to you and use it to your advantage, you will succeed.

Enough pep talk. Ick.

Ah, no thanks. Nothing wrong with the country! It's just me. I'd be the same if I lived anywhere in the world.

and finished 2 years of college and now going to university in January...

believe me.... highschool is a breeze compared to what you have coming...
you dont pay for your tuition, or books, still living at home in most cases, no bills to pay....
im telling you its the life

The thing is, you're in school when you're still growing up. If I had right now the problems I had back in highschool days I'd be more than happy, it would be nothing compared to what I face today, but back then it was horrible. But hopefully I'm living the worse part of my life right now, so I guess things kind of settle down someday.

I never said that life after school was any easier. I just said that some people don't understand how stressfull school can be.

Besides. We don't get paid to go to school.

well i totally agree with you when you say that school is stressful... and getting worse from what i hear...
i feel there's far too much emphasis put on testing (mainly final exams)
i feel students usually memorize their stuff they need to know and end up forgetting it all during the summer anyway...
just my opinion...

but if i honesly had a choice between work and school...
i would have to pick school...
thats just me though...

hey Darth im guessing your from the States...
and if so do you guys still have OAC/Grade 13 over there?
i know up here in Canada they did away with that last year and therefore have to cram everything into just 4 years of highschool...

Oh, something I always wanted to know, and never asked anyone: what exactly is the period of a school year in the US? Just for fun, and as an example, Brazil's: starts at the last monday in January and stops for a while during july, our "July break". Starts again at the first weekday of august, and the school year ends at the last weekday of november (there might be some stuff to do in the first days of december depending on what classes you take), because that's when our summer happens. I know that the school year in the US starts at the middle of a year and ends in the middle of the following year, that's just insane

Yeah, how exactly is the school system over there in the USA?

First you have elementary right? 6-11
Then you have high school? 12-17
Then you have college? 18-22
Then you have university? 22-??

Am I right or wrong here? I might have messed it all up actually!

- Here in Iceland we have it like this:

First is elementary school: 5-11
Then we have what you call "high school": 12-15
Then we have what I think you call "college": 16-20
And finally we have what I believe you call "university": 20-??

High school in Canada (and the US, from what I know) is ages 15-18 (grades 10-12).

I asked what months you have classes, not what's the age of people in highschool... Sorry, might have some language barrier here.

Some things vary. I've seen grade schools start up at end of August. Here, it's the second day after US Labor Day (first Monday in September), and gets out the Thursday following the 21st of June.

The schools I went to, were divided into grades 3 different ways:

K-6 / 7-9 / 10-12
K-5 / 6-8 / 9-12
K-4 / 5-8 / 9-12

I wouldn't suppose there's not any place that divides K-5 6-9 10-12. XD or something weird like that.

The line between "college" and "university" is rather blurry here, too...
