Preface On Batman

On Batman, since 1989, I’ve been wondering when and if I would ever see the theatrical version of the film again. Many of the releases claim to be the theatrical release, but I’m either confused or they are wrong. When the film was released on video, I noticed that I believe it was two possibly three minor shots had been removed from the film. Its been a while since I’ve seen the film, but of the three I remember one. It’s the sequence when Batman escapes from the Gallery with Vicki Vale. In the theater, as he reaches the stairs to the batmobile and is getting hemmed in, Bat Man reaches for a capsule from his belt, tosses it, and there is actually a cut away Close Up of the capsule hitting the wall/marble floor and bursting into smoke. Then Batman uses his hook gun, and makes the leap to escape. But in every version of the film I have seen since, this piece is missing (again there were two or three others, I just can’t remember them), instead it has that abrupt cut just after him dropping into the batmobile, and the joker leaning on the rail looking down “here does he get those wonderful toys” (note the plural of toys), and if you watch the film, there is definitely an abrupt cut there, as the audio kind of jumps.

My question is, a few actually.

  1. Am I crazy, and the only one who saw/remembers this.
  2. assuming I am not crazy, has this version of the film ever been released, or “restored”?
  3. And if not why not?
  4. Have these cuts ever been mentioned or explained by Burton? (I always assumed it had to do with time, and him cutting the film down for either TV Rebroadcast or Video Release, but to never have restored it seems odd to me.)

47 Ronin (2013)

Semi Request, feel free to PM. I’m just desperately trying to track down the Japanese Language version of the film, to just view for a potential Fan Edit. Namely cause I’m not about to plop down all this money on the import of it yet, on the off chance that either A) I order the wrong one and B) the cost, having never actually seen the film, to see if its worth the cost for the edit anyhow.

So does anyone know of where I might find or view this version of the film digitally in its entirety? (Apologies if this crosses bounds as a request, I’ve just exhausted every avenue in even tracking the film down outside of 3D versions, or having to special order the BluRay, sight unseen.)

The part where the capsule hits the floor and bursts into smoke happens earlier in the film when Batman escapes from Axis Chemicals, not the museum.
