What I’ll never understand about this debate is that kneeling is literally a form of respect.

Not when it is done during the Nation Anthem which is a clear violation of the proper protocol.

Proper protocol my ass. The same people complaining the loudest are the ones who have the American flag on their underwear.

I don’t have the flag on my underwear.

I never said you did. I’m sure you follow the rules to the letter.

Following protocol and showing respect aren’t necessarily the same thing.

When the rules say you should stand at attention and you kneel, I have having hard time seeing how that is not disrespectful.

What you described is them being disrespectful to the rules. Not disrespectful to the flag/what it stands for (not that I’d have a problem if they did, but they aren’t so). Unless you think it stands for “the rules”…

Anyway following the rules has no direct correlation with actual respect. They’re on different planes.

If you can’t see that kneeling when it is clear you are supposed to stand is disrespectful, that protesting the Nation Anthem is disrespectful, I don’t know what else to say to you.

They’re not protesting the anthem.

you can temp ban me if warbler ever understands this.

Personally, I think boycotting Nike is misdirected outrage, and that this outrage is just a fad. So many consumer boycotts come and go, and next year no one will remember this one. Being angry at Nike is just the recent popular thing to do.

Well I know it won’t do any good, but I won’t be buying anything from them. It is a matter of principle for me. I have as just as much to protest via boycott as those that protest via disrespecting the Anthem.

Honestly I think you’re the one disrespecting the country. You’re one of these people that’s opposed to any kind of protest that ruffles people’s feathers.

ruffing feathers is one thing, disrespecting the country is another.

If you don’t know why the ideals of America are worth of respect, I don’t know what to tell you.

I actually do respect the ideals of America. I think that the flag worship you and President Trump demand is antithetical to those ideals.

I don’t worship the flag, I respect it.

That’s sad. It’s a piece of cloth.

It is more than a piece of cloth

Don’t give me that. My family is full of veterans. A member of my immediately family was actually shot multiple times in the service, and guess what, he’s in support of the NFL players.

I thank all the veterans in your family for their service.

Bullshit, you respect at least some of them less. You admitted that.

I said tiny bit less, but I still respect them a lot.

I’ll try to illustrate how repugnant your statement is. You know that crying little girl and the crying little boy that you threw out in front of yourself as a human shield when you couldn’t answer my questions? Imagine if their dads who died while serving the country supported these anthem protests. Imagine admitting to those kids that even though their loved ones died while serving the country (which is more than your ass has ever done), you respect them less because they didn’t oppose something that you consider to be disrespectful. Imagine that. You aren’t a patriot. Your outrage isn’t about veterans. You’re one of these flag-wavers that cares more about tradition and arbitrary rituals than you care about the actual people that make up this country. There’s nothing patriotic about that at all. I hope that someday you’re able to realize that, not because I care if you see the light or anything that, I just think it’d be funny if you realized that your stance on this is unAmerican to the core and indistinguishable from Donald Trump’s position on this.

Most of your post was full of irrelevant stuff so I didn’t quote it, but I wanted to say that I did subject myself to the Mike the Cop videos. I watched plenty of his shit, I just didn’t watch him ramble for the full hour because I don’t have time for that, and you exaggerated that into this lie that I didn’t watch what he had to say on the murdered kid even though I did.

And Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t stand for the anthem or pledge for some arbitrary religious reason. Got a problem with them?

No, it’s a fucking fact! It is a 100% fucking fact! Facts aren’t dependent on your opinion! He’s protesting during the anthem. He’s not protesting the anthem, just like he isn’t protesting the flag, or protesting genetically modified food, or protesting vaccines, or protesting the MPAA, or any other thing! He’s protesting police brutality during the national anthem! FOR FUCKS SAKE! Why is that so complicated to you?! Are you trolling us? I hope to God that you are because if not, then this is some of the most mind-blowing shit that I’ve ever encountered on the internet!

So they have religious objection to saluting the flag or singing the anthem. I do wonder what they do during the anthem. The wiki page doesn’t say they kneel. Religious objection is more understandable than a decision to protest the anthem.

Okay, they’re not “protesting the anthem.” This has been explained to you so many times. But I find it hilarious that some stupid religious reason is more acceptable to you than protesting the systematic murder of citizens by the government. Fuck your phony patriotism.

Also, they don’t kneel (which is a sign of respect for the soldiers), they just sit their asses down. I find it funny that you’re opposed to kneeling even though they’re kneeling to respect the soldiers while still (ironic choice of words) taking a stand. Again, fuck your phony patriotism. Please never pretend that your outrage has anything to do with the soldiers, because you’re not fooling anyone.

I suspect they probably don’t attend sporting events, or anything where the anthem would be performed. A JW neighbor in the early '70’s took advantage of a family tragedy, and tried converting me and my Mom while we were still grieving. I was being discouraged to even recite the pledge in elementary school. I think I just mouthed the words for a while.
Being told I shouldn’t watch Scooby Doo because the show had ghosts on it was pretty stupid. There weren’t even any real ghosts in classic Scooby.

I guess that’s how they operate. We had some JW’s for neighbors in the 2000’s who were quiet and kept to themselves. A few days after my father’s death, they were on our doorstep. I’m not sure my Mom and I even talked about it afterward, but we definitely exchanged the kind of knowing glances only people who have been through this crap before can give. As the song goes, won’t get fooled again.

Yeah, the JWs in general don’t have “tact” or “respect” as part of their vocabulary.

Warbler, you honestly believe that they are “protesting the anthem”? You honestly believe that it is the ANTHEM that they are mad at??? Kapernick and others have made it clear from the start that they are protesting police brutality. And yet you (and others) persist in insisting that they are protesting the anthem. It’s amazing.

I know that now you’re going to say that the anthem isn’t the place to protest. That is a different argument. So just to be clear, one more time, on topic, Warbler, do you actually believe that they are “protesting the anthem”?

The expression of condolences came first, then the offer to help spiritually. I can only speak to my limited experience with them. I was too young to process how wacky they were when I was a kid. The apocalyptic imagery in their literature was pretty scary. (I presume it hasn’t changed over the decades.) Giant hand of God reaching down and wiping away Washington DC and such. I’m guessing the date when that’s supposed to happen keeps getting pushed forward.

Did you intentionally say that you have just as much to protest, or did you mean to say that you have just as much right to protest? Possessed has contacted me via email saying that there was miscommunication here. Not that he’s trying to undo his ban, he understands the reason for it and that he did break the rules, but he would like to know if this is the way you intended to phrase the post, as he says the inclusion of the word right would likely have gotten a less intense reaction from him.

You can say they are not protesting the Anthem, that they are protesting police brutality. I say they are protesting police brutality via protesting the Anthem. Whatever you want to call it, I find it disrespectful.

I will find it that way no matter what any of you want call me or think of me.

Sorry, no, that’s not how words work. Strange, with how often you’ve brought up dictionary definitions, I’d have figured you’re the type of person to care about that sort of thing.

oops!! I just checked the post he responded to. I accidentally left out the word “right”. I am sorry about that. If he thought I actually meant that I have just as much to protest, I could understand being angry with that.

Yes, I meant to include the word. I can easily see how meaning is very different without the word “right”.

I would go back and alter my post, but I want the mods to see that I accidentally left out the word “right”, so that they can see what Possessed thought I said and why he got as angry as he did.

Mods, please unban Possessed.
