Congrats! Lucky for you the competition was light.

Now if only a good print of ROTS would show up. 😃

I’d love to see a film print of ROTS too, but I think from a Theatrical Preservation standpoint, Schorman’s reconstruction with Jetrell Fo’s Theatrical DTS track just about covers it, since AFAIK the only noticeable changes are undoing the re-rendering of Kashyyyk by using an HDTV recording, the wipe that was reinstated to the Blu Ray, and the extra Clone voices the Blu Ray added but the Theatrical tracks fix.

Yes! So glad we won it. What’s the next stage after you get it in the post, schorman?

Thanks to all who donated! We were lucky to get it at the price we did, and we had just the right amount of funds.

As for current plans, the print is being shipped to LA for scanning by one of poita’s confederates. Indications are that scanning might be possible as soon as January.

We’ll have to wait for updates from poita from this point on.

The reels arrived, they will be going into storage until they can be scanned, there is a bit of a backlog on the 35mm scanner.

Awesome! I remember watching this in 35mm. Would be a treat… as much as it can be for this movie! haha

Would you be willing to allow me to use this scan as a source in my Machete Order-oriented edit?

I am willing to let anyone use it for projects, I just to find money to get it prepped and cleaned.
It is at the scanning facility awaiting cleaning.

I’m ponying up the $3K for the scan, but I’m hoping people will chip in for the $720 that the prep and clean costs, as I can pay for the scan after the scanning is completed, but I have to pay prep and clean up front before scanning can begin.

I’m curious, what can be gained from scanning AOTC in 4k? 😃 was it not filmed on 1080p digital tape? Can a decent upscale still be acheived?

If you just scan at 1080p/2K, there’s a nonzero chance the pixels printed to the film won’t line up with the pixels being scanned, so you’ll lose information. 4K guarantees you’ll pick up every digital pixel that’s on the print.

It’s more about the grain, scanning 4K resolves the print grain much better. There is likely much less picture data on the print than there is on the Blu-ray.

Well, yeah, that’s true too, but I seem to remember the pixel misalignment issue being a reason given by Poita at one point.

In addition to preserving the look and texture of a film print, there are some changes made from this Film Theatrical Cut to the Digital Theatrical/ DVD release.

Per Wookiepedia:
"Most of these changes did not appear in the main theatrical release, but made it into a version shown in select digital theaters.

Several speeders were removed from a shot during the Bounty Hunter pursuit scene.

New dialogue added to the scene where Anakin confesses to the Tusken slaughter to Padmé.

Additional sparks and smoke have been added to Jango Fett’s jetpack shortly before his death to better present its malfunction.

After falling out of the gunship on Geonosis, a clone trooper asks if Padmé is all right. Her response of “yes” has been changed to a more realistic groggy “Uh-huh.”

During their duel on Kamino a shot of Jango Fett headbutting Obi-Wan is removed from the UK version of the film and DVD.

Anakin’s mechanical hand now holds Padmé’s hand during the closing wedding sequence (this was originally included in the DLP theater release of the film)."

This is true, but isn’t really relevant to why the print should be scanned at 4K instead of 1080p.

But yeah, the 35mm/DLP/DVD differences are the big draw toward scanning a 35mm print of this in the first place.

i’d say the colors and look of 35mm would make the PT much more watchable.

My bad, I misunderstood that question then!
