I’ve just bought a new video capture card, but the software that comes with it only allows captures in H264.
Can anyone please recommend some preferably free software that I can use to capture from the card using the Largarith lossless codec?

You could give iuVCR a try. I used to use that when I had a capture card. It’s a bit old but you could choose Lagarith. http://www.iulabs.com/iuvcr/
There’s also a newer iuVCS from the same people, but I’ve never tried it: http://www.iulabs.com/iuvcs/index.shtml
Also, VirtualDub used to have capping capability.
