I imagine there would be a physical media release eventually?

I reserve physical media purchases for things I’ve already seen and know I like, or perhaps something I feel I’m extremely likely to enjoy. I don’t have enough faith in any franchise beginning with “Star” at this point to blind-buy media.

Once it’s on physical media I can get it from Netflix. Although I never do that with TV shows, I reserve that one-disc-at-a-time for movies I want to see that aren’t available to stream on Netflix or Amazon (which is most movies these days, unfortunately).

Streaming has incredibly limited options, especially for older films and brand new releases.

I dunno, I can find pretty much anything I’m looking for on Vudu to rent.

Well, streaming via renting is a different matter than what I was speaking to (although even then they still miss a few).

Yeah, pretty much. We already got four lackluster films. But I’m cautiously optimistic, since Stewart seemed a little wary to return. So I’m hoping that whatever they pitched him, was a good enough idea that will show in the finished production.

A large sack of cash is what they pitched him.

They got Hall H for Discovery at Comic Con, even though (reportedly) they weren’t able to fill it. CBS is in a spending mood.

Yeah, was afraid of that. But in the Trek spirit, I tried to be optimistic.

Suddenly everyone is privy to private negotiations with an actor. 😉

I’m sure it was more than that. Does Patrick Stewart really need money?

Author

^That too. The fact that it seems to be focusing on Picard entirely, not an ensemble, and he’s not a captain must have held appeal.

I just hope it’s not that Starfleet Academy idea that’s almost as old as TOS now.

That would be incredibly boring. I said it before, but I want to see Picard as an ambassador, doing the kinds of things Spock did during TNG.

And if it blows, they can always say it’s another holodeck simulation Riker was trapped in. 😛
I hope Picard will be sporting a beard.

Me too! Every scenario that showed a future Picard showed a bearded Picard.

Be great if they brought Captain Janeway back for a few episodes.

The blue elephant in the room.

Hopefully the rumours about the Picard series are 100% wrong, because if they will do it, Star Trek is finally dead. And it looks like the 2 Chrises (Pine and Hemsworth) are OUT of the Kelvin timeline movies? I didn’t expect that tbh.

Author

Eh, Trek has been dead before.

And these sort of contract things happen all the time with stars who are worth more now than when a franchise started. Only reason they want to resurrect Kirk’s dad is Hemsworth is a big name now. Can we give time travel shenanigans a rest?

Please tell me that’s not from a Voyager episode.

In any case, they made Janeway an Admiral and put her behind a desk in Nemesis to keep her out of temporal trouble.

Yes, but rather than dealing with the same old species and conflicts, maybe Picard could be an ambassador whose specific purpose is to greet new civilizations when first contact is initiated. That would allow the writers to stay on the original timeline and introduce us to new worlds/species/stories instead of rehashing all the same old conflicts.

I picture Picard as this Indiana Jones-type ambassador who performs his formal duties as ambassador, but spends his time off the clock getting into adventures and solving diplomatic issues in unconventional ways.

I started the new season of OITNB and only made it 5 minutes because I turned it off when I saw this.

As Picard had a love for archeology, I like the Indiana Jones comparison.

Who wants to lay odds Q eventually pops in?

Others have been completely screwed by having a 30 minute span of time they couldn’t shop there in the middle of the night. (Although they should have warned him sooner)

You say this is though it’s unreasonable to be pissed off that a store was so incompetent that it couldn’t sell you things while they’re open for business.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable for you to get irritated about that incident, it’s just the the level to which you let it bother is Absolutely hilarious.

Anyway, the Picard as an ambassador idea is a good one. As long as they actually make it New and interesting. But they’ll probably just rehash everything.

I don’t know if I want Q back. His story ended perfectly with the series finale. And look what happened when he showed up in Voyager.

Author
Time

They can safely ignore Voyager. And Q flat out told Picard in the finale that the trial never ends.

Crap, you’re right. I even uploaded that part to YouTube a few years ago. But I just don’t think anything they could come up with would do justice to the character.

There is one other problem with bringing Q back. John de Lancie has aged much since his last appearance in Voyager(did he make one in Enterprise). I will be obvious that he is much older. Qs are supposed to be omnipotent. I find it hard to believe they age.

I have to say I have a bad feeling about bringing back Picard.

I have a bad feeling about Star Trek in general anymore. Once they started with the Kelvin timeline, they never should have returned to the original. The whole point of creating the Kelvin timeline was to start over and to leave the original universe to rest in peace. But now they have gone back to it. It is bound to confuse fans just getting into Trek. I think the continuity is so messed up and confused, I don’t think it can be fixed. I think I am done with it. Sorry.

Can you really see Picard running around punching nazis and looking for the Holy Grail and the Ark of the Covenant, using a whip to climb things and swing from one thing to another and as a weapon, all while wearing a brown leather jacket and fedora?

The Star Trek canon and timeline has always been extremely convoluted and contradictory. It was just as daunting to get into in 2005 as it is now.
