Info: The Dark Knight - Theatrical Aspect Ratio, HD

The version of The Dark Knight currently available on Netflix US does not feature the expanded aspect ratio in the IMAX scenes. I [I]think[/] this is the highest quality non-aspect ratio shifting version of the film we’ve gotten. If anyone cares to capture this version, well, now you know about it!

What is so interesting about this version? Is it the new master, like the iTunes version?

I have no idea. Some people really hate the shifting aspect ratios, so I was simply letting those people know that this exists, as it is probably the highest quality copy of that version we are likely to get.

Would a Netflix capture or the iTunes release be higher quality?

I imagine the 4K Dolby Vision iTunes release is going to beat it out. I don’t think there’s a need to preserve the Netflix version.

Every shifting aspect ratio movie I’ve run across is flat on their digital copies, Nolan, Ghostbusters, etc.

Is the 4K iTunes copy flat? If so, my bad!

Yes, I can’t think of an iTunes copy that shifts aspect ratios for any movie. I can confirm TDK personally though.

I can confirm the iTunes copy doesn’t have shifting aspect ratio (I have a copy). Can’t be shifting, because it’s cropped to the OAR.
