Favorite Movie Soundtracks

The title of this thread is pretty self-explanatory, what are some of your favorite movie soundtracks?

Of course all of John Williams stuff is my list, his work with Harry Potter is getting progressively better with each movie IMO, Something Wicked this Way Comes and Hedwig's Theme from POA are two brilliant masterpieces.

Zimmer's haunting, brooding score on both Batman Begins and his swashbuckling "trailer-music" Pirates of the Caribbean are also great pieces of work(even though POTC is a little off balance with greatness one minute and blandness the next)

What about you guys?

Eh...

Remember those Star Wars movies from the 70s and 80s? They had good music.

Well, I meant to steer this thread clear of Star Wars, of course everyone at this board is a fan of them.

lets see great sound tracks, gladiator, braveheart, lord of the rings, the day after tommorow(presidents speech and the day after tommorow are some of the most emotional songs i have ever heard, you can feel the sorrow and devistation in the note of the songs) the final fantasy scores are fantastic too.

Turtles 2 featuring Vanilla Ice.
Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!!

Seriously though, Back To The Future has a great mix of orchestral score together with Johnny B. Goode, Eric Clapton and Huey Lewis and the News. Great Soundtrack.

War does not make one great.

Jerry Goldsmith's music for Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Planet of the Apes (1968), The Mummy... I have yet to come across one of his scores that I didn't like.

David Raksin's music for Laura.

Erich Korngold's music for The Adventures of Robin Hood--the example that JW followed largely when scoring the Star Wars movies.

There's a lot of great movie music out there, and also some that really SUCKS (Vangelis' score for Alexander, anyone?).

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Also, adding to the list, A Clockwork Orange soundtrack by Wendy Carlos. 2001's classical selection is also very good.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Napoleon Dynamite, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Alien 3.

Those would probably be my top 4, in no particular order.
Don't forget: with Lacuna, you can forget.

I ENJOYED ALEX NORTH'S ORIGINAL MOVIE SCORE OF 2001 THAT WAS REPLACED WITH THE CLASSICAL MUSIC RIGHT BEFORE THE FILMS RELEASE.

Did anyone see the Universal rerelease of the 1931 "Dracula"? I thought Philip Glass's score for that movie was brilliant.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail deserves a nod in my opinion, along with Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho". Yes, there was more music in that movie than just the screeching violins in the shower scene.

I enjoyed Glass' score. Dracula was one of those 'transitional' films between the silent and sound eras that really could have benefited from a good score at the time.

This'll be my last post for a few days. We're packing up and moving this week, so wish us luck.

All of Lean's movies had great scores, IMO. Almost all of them done by the French composer Maurice Jarre(sp?).
