Yes but I don’t know how that has anything to do with what I said. Writer’s rooms are committees. Yes there’s a head writer but the blanket statement “good things don’t come from a committee” isn’t true.

I’d say not quite. Yeah, both are groups of people, but the implication that comes with ‘committee’ is a complete lack of regard for creativity. Ideally, with a writer’s room the creative aspect of the process is the focus… that might then get skewed by a network exec committee enforcing whatever they think will sell.

Semantics, but I feel they’re important here 😛

m_s0 gets it. That’s what I meant. The writers of the show need to be confident in their own ideas, not worry about the fans, and not worry about how to target some demo. Discovery, from everything I’ve seen, does not seem very confident, especially with the very different tone I’m getting from the S2 trailer.

This is very different from TNG, which also had a shaky few first seasons, but those were as a result of someone (cough Roddenberry cough) perhaps being a little too confident in their ideas. The issue there was that it created an environment in which the really good ideas were not able to grow and be fostered on the show. I’m not convinced there’s a similar situation here with Discovery at all. It feels far too cynical.

I’m not very confident that they will be able to stay true to his character, given how legacy characters have been treated in the past, and even as he was treated in the four TNG movies.

So, my question is, will we be getting TV show Picard, or movie Picard?

Back to the prime universe, baby!
Wonder if we’ll get to see Riker and the U.S.S. Titan? Is Data still dead? I know the 2009 movie tie in prologue comics resurrected him in B4’s body.

I wouldn’t mind if they just ignored the TNG movies altogether. Though from the sounds of things it looks like this is going to be Picard all on his own. I don’t think Spiner has any desire to resurrect Data at this point.

I don’t think it’s going to be a dozen episodes of Picard tending his vineyards. 😉

Haha, perhaps not. But I’m almost certain the rest of the TNG cast won’t play a major role, if they even show up (Riker probably will, Data probably not). I want to see Picard as an ambassador.

No. Whatever. This show is not Prime Universe. It makes no sense for it to be Prime Universe. Many plotholes in the show are solved by saying it’s not.

I’m guessing STD isn’t altogether compatible with the Kelvin Timeline, either.

Looks like the Trek franchise is starting to resemble the Highlander franchise. I’m not bothered by that (in principle).

Seriously. Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard can be in DSC but that doesn’t draw the whole series into Prime nor does it mean that iteration of Picard is also from Prime. There are plenty of universes in which Picard exists and looks like Patrick Stewart.

Who said it’s set in DSC’s timeframe? A post-TNG series about Picard doesn’t have to reference DSC at all.

By definition it wouldn’t be DSC then, if it made no reference to or connection with DSC. That’d be like a TNG arc that followed the Enterprise-C, and yet never airing Yesterday’s Enterprise to make any of it relevant to the “next generation”.

Also, TNG characters appeared in Enterprise, and look how well that turned out. Granted ENT was good and DSC is awful, so they can’t really do any worse to DSC at this point.

JEDIT: You know what? Sure. I’d love for DSC to be retconned as some ludicrous holonovel Barclay dreamed up.

I see no reason why the Picard show has to reference DSC anymore than previous shows/films reference the events of TMP.

Funny that 5 years ago I would be excited. Now I just expect they will f it up and ruin his character. Especially when it’s done by the same people who are behind Discovery.

Picard is getting a new series, this has nothing to do with STD.

Because I’m a child, I giggle every time you guys say “STD.”
