Did it fail? I mean it failed with many of the old fans, but did CBS All Access and / or Netflix publish any numbers?

I think ‘relative success’ would be a decent way of putting it. They got some new eyeballs, but likely not as many as they would’ve liked to get, nor can anyone be sure whether any of those eyeballs stuck wih their subscriptions once DSC ended. Unlikely, given that there really isn’t anything on there to watch. No official numbers past the initial free (half) episode as far as I know.

There’s also rumours (at least I think these were rumours) that Netflix wasn’t that happy with season 1 for what they paid for it (though I think they paid 2/3 of the cost of season 1 which is/used to be a standard network deal for TV shows? Feel free to correct me on this point).

It’s all very murky, but CBS is trying to frame it as a smash hit. That could be viewed as true within the context of CBSAA, which is very nearly a complete wasteland.
