I feel ashamed I love it more than the Discovery trailer.
Why should you be ashamed? The Orville is a better show.
That speech in the trailer for The Orville is great, jokes land more often than before. Granted, they cherry-picked them, but it still looks to be a marked improvement over season 1.
Meanwhile, DSC is now trying for what The Orville is - seemingly - growing out of, thought not completely judging by the bits they showed thus far.
I like Anson Mount as Pike a la Greenwood. They tried to make Georgiou into that kind of a character, but it never clicked for me. Michelle Yeoh seemed bored with her.
Now, if they space Burnham by season 3 and turn this mess into The Cpt. Pike Show I’d be happy about that (because they clearly have no clue on how to make her interesting. The Borg incident fleshed Picard out in a much-needed way, but the character was still worth following before that. Here you basically need something to that effect for the character to work at all, and I don’t think I want to see what the DSC creative team can come up with…). This far into DSC I don’t really care about breaking cannon since it’s tough to consider it Prime as it is, so just give me an entertaining show that isn’t trying too hard in either direction.
