I watched an episode of TV yesterday that depicted an attempted suicide. The character was about the same age as an old friend who wasn’t so fortunate as to survive his attempt. Though I don’t know for certain why my friend took his own life, I can’t help but think it was for similar reasons. It brought back this horrible memory and now I’m feeling pretty sad.

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

Very sorry to hear that. I recently had someone I had class with commit suicide in the past month. We weren’t super close but we were friendly and by all accounts he was a stand up gent. And that’s been hard enough, I couldn’t imagine a close friend. I’m sorry for your loss.

Thanks man. This happened five years ago now, but every now and again I see something that jogs the memory, and it feels as fresh as it was then. I couldn’t imagine the constant pain his parents and brother must experience.

It’s not too much to ask. Maybe you’re just trying too hard with those people. Better friends wouldn’t be so uncaring.

So, no one gives a shit about me, and I don’t really have any reason to care either. I don’t really know what to do about it. I’ve been told not to try so hard, but that makes no sense to me. I don’t see how wanting a conversation with a friend for the first time in weeks after sitting in my house alone for a few weeks (when I’m not working or in class) is too much to ask.

Because when you don’t try so hard you relax and are yourself.

Also, I’m not sure people are intentionally ignoring you. I think people tend to focus mostly on themselves and what they are doing. I, for example, haven’t hung out with or talked to my old high school friend (who’s an Aspy) in several weeks. I do think about him but when I do it’s inopportune at the time for me to call, and when it might be opportune I find I’m busy with work or life or kiddos, or just not in the mood to call.

I’m sorry that your friends aren’t paying you enough attention. What I’m saying though is that I don’t think they know that they are.

Probably one of the reasons I gave up on real world friends years ago is I just couldn’t feel close to anything real. Just too hard to draw out that connection on a regular. Just too hard to always play the game without hope of a close link by the end.

But then I think it’s maybe because I just don’t relate to most.

I mean the stuff I’ve lived sort of gets in the way of relaxing and hanging in the unimportant. I sort of need someone who’s lived a little too. I sort of need someone who’s been there and back. I need someone who can see this world in the same tilted way I do.

So far I only get that sort of meet up online.

Like in this place.

Sometimes.

Do you work? Maybe try too socialize more with your coworkers.

to be fair, americans tend to be a bunch of fucking assholes, so that doesn’t help at all.

I imagine Handman’s travels from cheap hotel to cheap hotel, briefcase in hand, theme from the old Hulk TV show playing.

A more stationary job with coworkers your age would likely help.

Handman is probably the kind of guy I’d really like hanging out with in RL. I mean I’m not finding that kind of quality nearby.

And the fact his pals don’t seem to appreciate what they’ve got? Man that really gets me somehow.

I don’t know

Nah, I’m a piece of shit like anybody else. But I’ll take the compliment, Trident. Thanks. I hope you find something nearby too. You never seem to have a bad thing to say to anyone.

R.e. The age thing : some of the best friends I’ve had have been twice my age. Granted I was only 20 when we met so 40 isn’t really that extreme. But anyway. A new job might would help but I wouldn’t take a new job for that reason ALONE, make sure you aren’t going to lose anything valuable in case your next job turns out to be the same.
