Yeah, I don’t recall Kirk being the first to do much in TOS. Refresh my memory if I’m wrong, but I really don’t remember the show explicitly stating that his adventures were necessarily breaking new ground.
Also, remember when Kirk’s brother died in TOS and no one really cared or mentioned it again?
