Sure.

Shucks, Frink — you’re right. After all, a movie featuring

  1. Undead women with damaged, decaying bodies
  2. Charred, smoking corpses
  3. Creepy, crying nuns who glide rather than walk

isn’t the least bit macabre. That’s just typical family fare.

Just because a movie features those elements doesn’t make it horror. It’s never played for scares, always for laughs.

I also don’t remember any charred and/or smoking corpses.

It happens in a fantasy scenario where Hawn and Willis kill Streep and make it look like she died in a car accident. Not much is shown; an arm, IIRC.

The Da Vinci Code: wow i loved this. the story was really interesting, and the plot twists were all pretty effective to me. tom hanks, sir ian mckellen and paul bettany are great on this.

overall i tend to really enjoy mystery/suspense movies, and i also tend to really enjoy reading or watching stuff about conspiracy theories, so this was a piece of cake to me.

really really enjoyable experience, i should’ve watched this a long time ago.

10/10

I watched the third one when it came out. It was dismal. I never watched the others.

I didn’t even know there was a second one.

Angels and Demons follows the same character. In terms of books, Demons actually comes first. So the movie’s actually a prequel, I guess.

But the movies suck anyway. Browns early stuff through DaVinci was really good. Then the books thereafter are bad. Maybe the movies followed a similar trajectory (though from bad to reallllly bad).

I would put this in my sig if I weren’t so lazy.

I felt like the movies took a really intriguing, intellectual mystery into a cheap adventure flick. I could perhaps see someone not having read the books enjoying the movies, I guess.

A Safe Place – Experimental, not too great 70s film with Jack Nicholson and Orson Welles for some reason.

Tried to watch Armageddon (Bruce Willis) last night. What a joke. Got about 30 minutes in.

“these guys are astronauts, not drillers; I want to bring my own men”

“Oh, sure” (paraphrase)

So you can teach someone to be an astronaut in two weeks, but not to drill into bedrock?

This was only one problem of many, of course, but this one stood out.

It might be. I can’t say for sure because I only lasted 10 minutes before giving up on it.

Oh you should give it another try it’s actually pretty funny. Although I haven’t seen it in years so maybe I wouldn’t think so now.

I still haven’t seen a single Michael Bay film. I count myself blessed.

The Rock is a legitimately fun, kinda schlocky 90s action flick. I’d recommend it, and it’s probably the only Bay film I’d say that about (although I enjoy both Bad Boys movies to one degree or another, I can’t recommend them).

The Rock is great.

It’s the only Michael Bay film to get a Criterion release.

Some Criterion fans in the 90’s thought they were slumming it a bit releasing those on LD. 😉
