STAR WARS in 3-D! — Page 3

I read about them debuting the first 10 minutes of ANH in 3D at some convention about a month ago. If I remember correctly, you don't need glasses to view it. This would simply be a conversion, I don't think George would really be involved much. It would just be handing it off to some third-party company to convert them (there was another article somewhere that said the company Lucas wanted to use). I highly doubt there would be any changes for this version.

I don't know. It might be interesting to see. It would be the SE anyway so I wouldn't have to worry about it messing it up. Anyone ever see the IMAX film on special effects that redid the opening to ANH for IMAX. I don't mean blow it up to scale but literallly recomposite it. THet was actually pretty cool.

Though I agree with Warbler on films like Casablanca. There'd be no point in it. I found the AICN article amusing when it wrote about how most films sound are remixed, and even if the original mono is included(which can be rare), which do you listen to. The mono my friend, the mono.

Imagining watching a documentry on the Titanic with the Titanic presented nearly life size.

Before they showed the redo, they showed a 35mm print version. It was like watching a 20" TV pic on a theatre screen. The Tantive was about as big as one of the laser bolts in the redo IIRC. Highly impressive.

A lot will have to be cut to get Ep III in IMAX. The format has a limited run time of 2 hours as I understand it. Lots of stuff was lopped off of Ep II to fit.

Not anymore. From what I have been told, IMAX no longer has that time restriction on it.

However, it's becoming more and more apparent that LFL has no desire to release this film in IMAX. If they did, they could easily reach the $400 million plateu.

I saw Batman Begins in IMAX last week, my first IMAX viewing of a full-length film, and while I didn't think it made *that* much of a difference, I can now say I've done it. And yes, I don't think there is a restriction on running time anymore, as BB is about the same length as RotS, and nothing was cut.

CC, you just answered a question that's been burning in my mind for some time regarding Batman.

On the runtime issue, what allowed IMAX to start offering longer run times? Or, perhaps the more appropriate question is, what was the reason for the 2-hour restriction in the past

i thought it had something to do with the reels of film in the IMAX itself and restrictions on how long they could be...but I can't find citation for that on the web, so file it under "idle speculation."
