Despecialised help required for IT idiot

Author
Time

Hi…

For years I have suffered watching Star Wars the way George Lucas wants me to see it…now on blu ray too…and then I found this little corner of the internet and it’s exactly what I wanted…the films as I saw them as a boy!

Except, I can’t really because my IT skills stretch to just about using Microsoft Office and figuring out an itunes account.

Reading the instructions on downloading, and searching online for this or that version of Star Wars/Empire/Jedi is utterly baffling to me…and then how on earth I would be able to watch them on my tv after?

I suspect, at the age of 45, I am beyond the capabilities of learning what a lot of you on this forum seem to be able to take for granted.

Which is a shame, because the spirit of this site is to make the despecialised films available to all…it just seema my awful IT knowledge would stop me.

I own the blu rays, the dvds, the VHS (!) and even the dvds with the awful “special feature” of the original cuts of the films that are about as poor as they could possibly be.

I object, and refuse to pay money to the scum and villany on places like ebay charging stupid prices for (no doubt) the hard work of some people on this forum.

But, what is a UK Star Wars fan who cannot work out his torrent from his download to do?

Is there a kind soul out there who would be prepared to PM me with the ability to burn some discs, and in return I would gladly cover their costs or sort out some other form of “thank you”?

I want to see what Harmy has done…and I want to see Han shoot first, I don’t want comedy Jawas in Mos Eisley, I want to see the original Emperor again and I definately want to see Sebastian Shaw take his rightful place at the end of Jedi…all in HD glory.

If you can help, I promise you will be met with a wave of love from this end.

Thanks
Ed

I Ed1973,

I’d love to burn the BR for you, but I don’t live in UK so shipment costs would be high.
But if you don’t get an answer from a closer neighbour, don’t hesitate to PM me.

You need to be on here for 3 months total, and have 30 posts. He’s from the UK.

Moderator Edit : No. Just no.

That isn’t the service that is being offered at all - it was a kind gesture by a fellow member (Captain_Danielsan) here - who has gone out of his way to try and help others who don’t have a print-to-disc printer.

It is simply a disc printing service to help fellow members have a nice/professional looking set.

First of all, its not that difficult. You just have to have patience. It took me WEEKS to download each part of just the first film, and multiple attempts using different methods. Read the FAQ. Google how to do it.

Nothing drives me crazier than someone saying its beyond their means. It’s NOT. If you really want it, you can figure it out.

YOU CAN DO IT.

Hi Ed, do you need the discs? Are the mkv files not good enough? Most of the modern TVs shouldn’t have any problem playing the files. If the mkv files would be enough for you, all you need is jDownloader2 (downloaded from their official website, some “special” websites offer it for download too but several people have reported that they add adware to it) or maybe better Free Rapid Downloader, enough patience (it can take a few days depending on your speed), and this step-by-step guide : https://goo.gl/1WGHBA

Well, part of the problem is I don’t really know how my computer works!! For example, in the instructions to download the rapid downloader it says not to save it under program files because this might affect other plug ins or updates… so…could I save it to desktop? Would that be “safe”?

See, I haven’t even got to downloading a film and I’m stuck! I told you I was IT useless!

But, ni, pittrek, I don’t “need” the discs…I would be quite happy watching them via a USB (I have a portable 1TB HDD actually with some avchd files on it from my camera which I can plug into my blu ray player or tv via a usb port).

Again, I suspect I could just download the avchd versions of despecialized (?) as I have read on here on the forums they are smaller files but little loss in quality?

Any help would be fab!

I assume you are on Windows. Depending on your version / config the “Program Files” folder(s) can be “write protected”, so updates COULD have problems. The solution is simple, install it somewhere else, e.g. “C:\Programs”.

You remind me on my dead mother. “I don’t know how it works and I don’t want to learn it” 😃

Sure, if AVCHD is good enough for you, you can download these versions, they’re smaller. I never downloaded them since I have no equipment for playing the format, so I can’t comment on the quality.

Any help would be fab!

Hey hey - come on guys - don’t insult…I’m trying my best will zero experience. Being told that I would work it out if I want it bad enough or that I remind them of someone’s mother isn’t nice.

Yesterday I spent a few hours just trying to get the free rapid download thing - I couldn’t work out how to get it from the dropbox account to my laptop and in the end tried to find it online and was met with a barrage of Norton warnings about threats prevented and being directed to german websites with green “download” buttons that were going to make me download “other software” I didn’t want.

It’s been quite stressful this end - and I’m scared of getting a virus on the laptop or doing something to my computer I can’t undo.

At this rate you will hit 30 posts pretty quickly. Then all you have to do is wait 2 more months, and then you contact the person that will burn the discs for you.

Jesus Christ. Did you even read my thread. It seems hardly anyone reads it correctly because all I get is pms asking for content on discs. I DO NOT DO THIS AND NEVER WILL.

I request a mod to close this thread as it’s not what we do here. But feel free to pm me for a dummy guide on how to get content onto discs.

Captain, Out.

I did actually wonder if deathstar1138 was just trying to further frustrate me… it is pretty clear Captain_Danielsan won’t burn discs

Also, in an earlier post I mentioned downloading the AVCHD files because they are the same as those from my camera I plug in via a USB… so no request for discs.

Hi Ed1973,

Welcome to the forum!

I can help you out. I’ll send you a private message. I know it might seem daunting, but I had to learn many of the technical skills myself when I first joined, so I promise, you can do it to.

We can walk through the various format options. Then I’ll take you through what you’ll need to do to download and watch your chosen version. We’ll take it step by step. Given that you know at least the bare basics of how to use a computer (and you do; posting on this site is proof of that) I’m confident you can obtain the Despecialized Editions you’re seeking.

Oh, and benduwan is correct about there being a detailed how-to on YouTube. But there are several significant changes since that video was posted back in 2015. That said, since some of the steps are similar, I’ll still link that video below.

Just know that the steps in “The Ultimate Introductory Guide” are much more up to date.

Outdated how-to video here.

Edit: To be clear, though, I will not burn any content for or snail-mail any content to you.

The NJVC Custom Bluray Set of Harmy’s Despecialized Editions is available on Mega.

I wouldn’t worry too much about viruses back when I actually used windows, antivirus software will flare bogus warnings sometimes, your probably better of going the torrent route, transmission qt is probably the simplest one to use.
