Of course, it's only good news if the season actually happens. I'm so sick and tired of hearing about how hard done by the players are going to be if the lockout actually happens. The worst thing that will happen is that a strike will likely spell the death of the NHL as we know it. Unlike other professional sports, the NHL doesn't have a large fan base to begin with (compared with MLB, NFL and NBA); it can't afford to lose fans over a labour dispute.

yep, the problem in my opinion is that the players are getting too greedy

Sounds like all sports in general. A rookie tight end for the Cleveland Browns named Kellen Winslow is holding out on going to training camp because he thinks he deserves a US$40 million contract for however many years. The Browns are offering him $22 M for those years. How can a rookie think he deserves that much when he hasn't even played professionally yet?

Hey guys

Just got back from Columbus where the US played Canada in a pre world cup exhibition game. I gotta say the US looked really good, outpassing, outhustling, and outshooting the Canadians by almost 2-1. The score was 3-1, but that doesnt really reflect the play on ice. I know it's only an exhibition game, but the US really dominated last night.

Yeah, has there been a decision on the NHL season yet or is it still up in the air?

Negotiations have stalled, yet again; both sides have walked away from the table, which means only an act of God will enable the season to start on time.

i swear the NHLPA are acting like a bunch of children. they are making no compremises, and it is pissing me, the owners, some of the players, and most of the fans off. they are like the 3 year olds in a store:

- "NO I WANT THAT ONE"
- "but we cant get that we dont have the money"
- "YOUR LIEING ITS IN YOUR PURSE"
- " no i am not here look for yourself,"
- "I DONT BELEIVE THAT YOU HAVE A SERCET POCKET SOME WHERE"
- "no i dont, what about this one"
- "I WANT THAT ONE"

That is literally how they are acting, they want a free market where teams can pay players as much as they want, the fact is that the league cannot afford to do that, because in a system like that only like 3 teams would have the money to get the good players and be able to contend, and that would leave you with 20 -25 other teams that would be losing money.( infact that is the current state of the NHL) its stupid, only one of the other 3 major sports have that system, thats baseball, and what do you get in baseball, teams like the yankees. baseball can in away afford to have free market system cus they got the money, the NHL doesnt have that amount of money. in baseball the stadiums can hold upto 40000 ppl, and they have about 140 games, in hokcey you have 80 games, and areas that hold about 19000 ppl. you dont have the same sort of money flowing in.

Not to mention that hockey just doesn't have the same kind of money flowing in from TV licencing and PPV. Hockey simply doesn't have a large enough fan base in North America to pay the kind of salaries that players are asking for.

Frustrated USA sniper Brett Hull drops the 'F-bomb'

ST. PAUL, Minn. (CP) - A winner of the World Cup of Hockey tournament has yet to be crowned but Brett Hull already is assured an award - Most Unhappy Player.

Hull, a healthy scratch for Team USA's win over Slovakia, showed up for practice Sunday to find he had been assigned the same green sweater as other Friday scrubs, and he didn't like it one bit. He left the ice 10 minutes before his teammates, again declined interview requests and was out of the Xcel Energy Center in a hurry.

The third-leading goal scorer in NHL history could not have expected to be a spare part in what is probably his last major international tournament for the United States, for whom he's performed beyond the call of duty. To say he's frustrated is putting it mildly.

"Got a minute to talk to reporters, Brett?" Hull was asked in a corridor outside the dressing room. "What would I have to talk about?" he replied.

"Fans want to know how you're doing," said the reporter.

"I don't give a f*** about the fans anymore," said Hull.

End of conversation.

Anyone else think the coach of Team USA was trying to teach Hull a little humility?

hull is a peace of shit, never liked him, never will. A good player that cared about the team more then himself would have worked his ass off in practice and made sure that he was the last one off the ice at the end. the fact is that hull is used to being the #1 guy always getting good treatment by everyone cause he was the guy they relied on. Now on team USA he isn't the only star anymore, most of the players on the team are just as good if not better then him And so now he can get benched if he is an ass, and not workin hard, and he dosnt like it. But too bad ship up or ship out that is what ron willison is telling him.

But the NFL players also make the least amount of money in relationship to revenue of the four major sports. The NFL makes tons.... the TV deals alone cover all players salaries and then some.

Another thing, NO, that's right NO player contract in the NFL is guaranteed. Teams can dump a player or trade him without notice and without severance, and they don't have to honor any remaining money in a player's contract.

So, as far as the NFL is concerned, I have no problems with a player holding out or refusing to play "for the team", when the teams don't give a damn about them. There is no duty to the fans or any of that crap.

NFL'ers should get paid more when their corporation is raking it in and they're getting killed on the field. The average career of a running back: 3-5 years. They should be getting paid the most. Not these cry baby baseball players like A-Rod, who would go on the IR if he stubbed his toe.
