Never heard his music, so I can only guess. And since I hate pretty much all popular music these days (that I’ve heard) I tend to lean towards the expectation that I won’t like it.

Well, if that’s how you feel…

I just thought it was funny that, of all the mainstream musicians, he’s probably the least deserving of being shit on for being not a “real musician.”

That may be the case. I’ve never listened to his music, but every single other mainstream musician that I’ve heard that is lauded as being basically perfect by almost everyone (e.g. Kanye, Katy Perry, Beyonce, Sam Smith, Drake, Megan Trainor, etc. etc.) has failed to impress me one bit. So my thoughts on Lamar are basically: I hate 99% of what our mainstream culture offers in terms of music, so why should I even bother sampling the other 1%? And just so you know, I’m one of these assholes that thinks 1979 was the last year that any good music came out. There’s great music today, but by and large it’s ignored because quality products typically aren’t marketable to mainstream audiences these days. That goes for movies, books, music, and pretty much everything else.
