It seemed to basically a similar story as Splash
LMAO

It seemed to basically a similar story as Splash, but reworked as a dark film with the sexes reversed, and the Creature From the Black Lagoon replacing the mermaid. There’s nothing very thought-provoking about it, which is what I meant by “light”.

Interspecies romance with bad scientist trying to stop them, leading to a race against time.

I know, I just found the comparison hilarious.

I’m a huge fan of Guillermo so I wanted to love The Shape of Water but I just couldn’t. Far too perverse.

I tend to think of light as a descriptor of tone.

I actually think it’s his best movie, but then again I’ve never been much more than a vague fan of his at best.

Don’t get too excited.

I loved the progression of the bad guy’s fingers. The movie might even be categorized as a dark comedy.

The Shape of Water is actually the only Del Toro film I’ve seen, and I thought it was delightful. YMMV, but I found it to be a gorgeous celebration of being “other”.
