How does Grand Moff Tarkin fit into Ep 3? — Page 5

i doubt that Tarkin was more powerful than Vader, its just that he had more might in terms of the Emperor granting him more power.

Vader seemed to have the most powr in Empire, killing officers that made a slip-up left and right. Tarkin clearly had authority over him("Vader, release him!" "As you wish,"), as did the emperor in Return of the Jedi. I agree thet tarkin looks like a pot smoker with the munchies, but the resemblance is passable.

vader looked like the enforcer who needed to learn some thing about the "Empire"

Sorry, language barrier here, by "more powerful", I don't mean powerful with the force or anything like it, I mean, has more "political power", a higher grading, I mean, like, Vader is below Tarkin in the hierarchy.

im not sure that vader is in any hiearchy. i think its just that he has been assigned to assist tarkin in any way and to behave - by orders of the emperor.

Or possibily to keep an eye on Tarkin so that Tarkin won't get any ideas with the Death Star at his command.

maybe that too... under the guise of being under tarkin. could be could be.

Hmmm... that's an interesting theory motti. And I agree with you. It would be logical for the Sith Lords to be separate of any sort of Imperial hierarchy. Kinda like their own good squad, per se. Much like Jedi Knights are removed from the Senate in terms of ranking and hierarchy in the PT.

Well, with the Clone Wars, the Jedi are incorporated into the military structure somewhat in that Padawans are Commanders and Jedi Knights and Jedi Masters, Generals. Still, with Vader it makes more sense in ANH not to be totally in the command structure with how Tarkin, Motti, etc... respond to him.

Makes sense. I've always wondered how Motti could speak with Vader like that, and Needa couldn't.

Then again Motti strikes me as a far stupider Imperial then Needa. Also, I am pretty sure Motti was a Moff, whereas Needa was a simple captain.

But Needa has guts. If I was him, I would blame someone else for the m. falcon disappearing. Or run away. I mean, what do you think Vader was going to do? "Awwww it's ok, Needa. We all make mistakes, you are only human..."

Motti is not a Moff. Motti was an Admiral and I don't believe that rank officers are Moffs. Moff is like the highest echelon in the Empire, isn't it? With Grand Moff being the highest of them all. They can work themselves up to that point, but you can't be both an Admiral and a Moff, for example.

My mistake, he is an Admiral, but I think that proves the point. As an admiral, he can mouth off slightly more then a captain.

Yeah, if you got balls of steel. Knowing what I'm sure everyone knows about Vader, there ain't no way I'm saying smack in front, beside, or behind Vader. Nuh uh. No way, bucko.

Captain Needa, by taking responsibility, knew that he would die. I'm surprised Vader didn't forgive him just because he had the nards to come up to him and sincerely apologize, prepared to take it like a man.

ps. on starwarsspoors.com, there is a hilarious cartoon where Needa apologizes by giving a card and a balloon to darth vader. Needa is waiting and vader says, "Apology accepted, Captain Needa." You can even read the apology card.

I still think the one with Vader trying to Han's blaster is the funniest one on the site, though the one with Yoda and Dooku was good.

As far as the Motti thing goes, I already said this before, but I think Vader definitely moves up in rank when the Death Star is destroyed, along with many of the high ranking Imperials. With power comes responsibility; In Vaders case the responsibility of choking anyone who screws up. Actually I just realized that in ESB one of Vaders first acts is to kill off one of his Admirals; something he was not allowed to do in ANH, assuming the above info about Motti is correct.

It is, he is Admiral Motti. And I also agree, I think at the very least Vader's loyalty in returning to Palptine cleared any doubts the Emperor probably had about Vader, if he had many, until Vader and Luke confront each other at Cloud City.

or maybe no officer messed up in ANH.

Really? How about the "there are no life forms in this pod" guy?

When the MF left the death star, they had a... I forgot the word... a device that would allow them to find out where the rebels were. What if the TIE's had destroyed the MF?
