Ok. The movie isn’t from Hollywood either. I just figured I might hate it given the subject matter and how it’s been handled in modern Hollywood movies, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I don’t watch much Australian cinema.

I was on the edge of my seat from the beginning to the end. Going in I was expecting Hannibal to be the main antagonist but I was pleasantly surprised. Bill was pretty disturbing.

Was it good? I only ask because I only watched it based on some word of mouth I heard (probably here) saying it was really good. It was good. But I’m a bit surprised at the praise.
I’m not usually one to ask this, but I do wonder why the story required the team to all be women. Maybe I missed something.

I don’t remember if the movie mentioned it, but in the book it’s said that all previous expeditions were exclusively men so they made this group exclusively women to see if that variable would change anything.

I can’t remember if it was mentioned or not either. But at least there was a reason for it in the movie then, even if they missed mentioning it.
I really appreciated a group of strong female characters who weren’t defined by their gender. Whenever a film has an all female cast and then chooses to define the characters based on their femininity or the mere fact of them being women I think it kind of defeats whatever feminist purpose they thought they were achieving.
