8/10 (I’d probably give 1 a 7/10)

Flip those two and that’s my rating.

There was nothing in 1 as enjoyable as the baby in 2, so by that metric alone 2 wins.

Also 2 had a beer at the theater and 1 had no beer at home. Both had popcorn but the theater popcorn was better.

Except the part where they gave it to us and expected us to take it home to pop it.

The Godfather (1972)

It was pretty good, even though I think Michael’s turn was a little sudden.

8/10

Back to the Future (1985)

The only real negative I can think of is some of the on the nose jokes. Other than that it’s a blast!

9/10

Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

I really loved it. I loved how it was shot, and I loved how it didn’t spell things out for you.

9/10

It wasn’t cliche and I didn’t see the story coming. Its atmosphere culminated a sense of dread I haven’t felt in a movie in a long time. The whole vibe was harrowing. It being made as an independent film and then later picked up for major distribution definitely did it some favors as the director was clearly not constrained to follow standard tropes and cliches.

Agreed. There are certain images in the movie that just really stick with you. No other way to put it for me other than it has really stuck with me in a haunting way.

This. And the way the music suddenly gets all ethereal and soothing at the end during the most fucked up part of the movie is beyond twisted and I loved it.

Jack Jack and Edna were hilarious. Though I prefer the first one. The novelty and the clever references of the original just can’t be replicated.

Yes! I’m glad you mentioned the music choice at the end, cause I nearly forgot about that! It was definitely an interesting choice but I felt it really showed how messed up everything was in that moment.

The movie I really want to check out after seeing Hereditary is The Witch.

Of course I have. If you’ve watched every anime every made, you’ve probably seen your fair share of posters too.

The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert – Absolutely bizarre, and fascinating. I’m surprised I didn’t hate it, given my stance towards a lot of modern Hollywood movies, but here is an instance where these characters are so well written that it really feels like it’s coming from a genuine place, which I’m sure it is.
