Why do you have to be 16 to buy regular apple cider?

Ooh, apple cider doesn’t have alcohol? My mistake. It was cider. With alcohol.
But then, what is apple cider? Isn’t it just apple juice?

Hard cider.

Apple cider is raw, unfiltered, unprocessed apple juice. Spiced apple cider has cinnamon and nutmeg and stuff like that in it. None of this involves alcohol. Hard cider contains alcohol.
…in the US. From what I’m reading, “apple cider” is an alcoholic beverage in other regions, because apparently apple cider is not shelf stable and will ferment over time.
Apple juice is pasteurized, and therefore can’t ferment.

Oh we have hard cider here, but it’s its own specific thing and doesn’t have alcohol unless specified
Not that I’m complaining, but why was MalàStrana banned?

Every thread we could talk about this stuff in gets locked so I’m reluctant to comment about how she was being a jerk as well as provoking the moderation.

yeah, we should learn and talk about banned users in threads we hate…

So, threadcrapping and shitposting (basically incendiarily derailing a thread) again after being told to quit it.

Google doesn’t seem to think “incendiarily” is a word.

Christ on a cross. . .
Why do some people say “Jesus H. Christ” or “Christ on a crutch”?
What is the “H” supposed to stand for, and why a crutch?
I never understood why people say that.

I assume the “H” stands for “holy”.

I don’t know. I didn’t say either of those things so I don’t really have any insight.

I know. But it got me thinking that what you said would make more sense than what people usually say.
And it was a random thought, and I used it to change the subject.

The H stands for Hotpocket.
People say “crutch?” I don’t think I’ve ever heard that one.
Me neither.

Harold. Jesus Harold Christ.
I’ve said this my whole life and have no idea where it came from.

Just kidding. When I was a child I used to think it stranded for hussein. Not making any kind of statement or joke or anything like that, it wasn’t as a controversial name back then, or at least I didn’t know it.
If you’re under 30, it was controversial. Saddam Hussein was a big deal in the 80s, moreso in the 90s.

Uh, and in 2003.

He mentioned it wasn’t controversial when he was a kid, so I figured he knew that part.

“Crutch” might be a deliberate mispronunciation of “cross,” but I’m not really sure.
My theory regarding “Jesus H. Christ” is that in Catholic churches (and on other Catholic things) you’ll often see inscriptions like “JHC” or “JHS.” These stand for Jesus’ name (or in more recent times have been interpreted as a short form of “Jesus Hominum Salvator”, which is Latin for “Jesus Saviour of Mankind”), and are a transcription of the first three letters of his name in Greek (hence the variation between C and S). My guess is that some people, seeing that and not knowing what it meant, but knowing it referred to Jesus, interpreted it as his initials.

JEDIT: Hey, Wikipedia backs me up. It says that it’s common in the Anglican/Episcopalian Church as well, which is likely where exposure to the “JHC” abbreviation would have come in.
JEDIT: Oops, that wasn’t a JEDIT…
